some out of pocket and the rest from the parents (maybe a little from relatives, too).

Well the study abroad programs I am interested in are approximately the same price as my college tuition + room & board so I'm paying for it the same way I'm paying for those, some student loans and some parent loans.

scholarships and financial aid, and loans if that doesn't cover it.

Parent. I am making them broke (not really..but a BIG dent)

For the time that a student is doing study abroad, what costs of study abroad are over and above the tuition/room/board/fees to the college?

The study abroad program I'm looking at is about 7,000 more than tuition and room and board would be at my school so it isn't too bad. My grandparents also started a college fund for me a few years that my dad hasn't tapped into yet so if need be my dad can dip into that.

If you go abroad during the regular academic year, your scholarship should follow you. That will make a big dent in whatever expenses you have. Although with the way the dollar is sinking....

Depends on the scholarship and the school. Some scholarships and some schools specifically state that their institutional awards do not cover study abroad.

From my experience, and from that of other families, the best bet at having your scholarship cover your expenses while doing study abroad is to do a program affiliated or sponsored by your college. Most schools have a study abroad office or department. Go and talk to them. They will be able to talk to you about options and funding.
