i'm taking pre ap chemistry but i want to take the ap test so i'm going to study a lot of material on my own but i haven't started yet. my mom says its pointless if i get less than a four on it. so just wondering do i need to have the lab experience to get at least a four or a five on the test?

last year at this point i was around stoichemitry, then in around january/february we did periodic trends, in october electron config.
by april we did chapter 22 (something close to it) but we skipt chapters like 16-20 (it actually wasnt on ap exam, atleast i think for the most part), after 22 or maybe 23 there was no important ap exam material so we didnt do it (our teacher also reviewed IB; which is easier then Ap (Ib got a 6; ap 3)
but you probably should go ahead since chemistry ap is pretty hard (one of the hardest), and borow either a barrons or 5 step book.
Also check other CC members since they get 5's.

We're on Chapter 11 in Zumdahl

i don't have the textbooks you guys have, but we're just finished gases (PV=nrt stuff) and are now on intermolecular forces.

Do you guys think that self-studying Chem is do-able? Chem is my absolute favorite subject (gasp), but my school doesn't offer the AP. My chem teacher is very open to students who are self-studying the exam to ask him questions, and he's very helpful because he taught chem at McGill university (Montreal, Canada) for a few years.

When you guys talk about the Zumdahl book, which book are you refering to exactly? I searched it on Amazon, and there were quite a few results, so it would be great if you could send me the link (Amazon) to the one you guys are talking about. Also, what would be a good review book for the exam?

Thanks soo much!

Edit: I just saw that someone else asked this question, but I would still like more info, thanks

does anyone in this thread this that AP chem is the hardest class in the history of APs... cause i sure do hahaha... i got a C+ for the first quarter lol

yeah people in my class don't remember all the naming compounds stuff and the reaction rules because we haven't done it since like september. we're on 8-9 in zumdahl, but i really wish we did more review problems in class.

We've done chapters 1-11 in Zumdahl, and I remember and understand almost everything perfectly--and that isn't meant to come off as bragging. My chem teacher is probably one of the best teachers I have ever had. My only complaint is that the avergae grade for the chapter 7 test was a 70%--not many people seemed to grasp the concepts presented in that chapter--and she really didn't do much to remedy it, e.g. going back over it. But I am sure she knows what she's doing.

Did any of you guys do badly on chapter 7?

i think it IS the most hardest ap in the history of ap's.

o and we're on 10-11 on zumdahl and we have to do a test on it for winter break

Chapter 7 and 8 was the hardest two chapters for me so far. I guess I will have to go back and review it myself.

For someone who doesn't have Zummedahl, what are chapters 7 and 8 in the book?
