Where are you volunteering? survey

Place(s): (library, hospital, etc.)
Hours Worked this Summer:
Hours worked total: (includes hours in the past, and at other places, etc school)
Why?

Thank you!!! :D

Place(s): Tennis courts around my area - I teach underprivileged kids tennis
Hours Worked this Summer: Around 10
Hours worked total: LOL, no idea, maybe 100… 150…?
Why? My parents forced me to volunteer for the organization 3 years ago to help with college apps, and I’ve been volunteering ever since. Since then I’ve made friends with some of the kids and it isn’t a bad way to spend a few hours per week. It looks good for college apps too ;).

omg that’s so cute!!!

cute… cute…

DOES NOT COMPUTE

omg it rhyymessss
that’s so cute!!Q

Place(s): Animal Shelter working through a local Petsmart
Hours Worked this Summer: Only about 5. I’ve just started.
Hours worked total: By the end of this summer, I’ll have hopefully worked about 20-30 hours.
Why? Because I love animals and want to help out as much as possible. And it gives me something to do while I can’t find a paying job this summer.

oh Bassoonapus, u r a q u t urself

Place: Pediatric wing of a hospital
Hours worked there total: 1200ish
This summer: 5 hours (I just got back from Summer@Brown)
Why? Because that’s what I want to do in life. (pediatric medicine)

@dfree :D

to everyone:
how many hours do colleges want?

jaw hits ground

Colleges don’t especially care about the # hours as they care about the consistency and the type of volunteer work.

Trash collecting at the beach < volunteering in a research laboratory

Trash collection + hospital + pet shelter + homeless shelter + more trash collection + food drive < consistent volunteering for one cause/at one place.

thanks qube! :D

Place: Youth Court
Hours this Summer: No idea… 50ish maybe?
Hours Total: 189.5

I’m really happy that I have almost 200 in about 13 months of Youth Court. I hope to get more over the next three years.

LIberty science center. easy job. cool priviledges…

Place: Library, Safety Town
Hours this Summer: Maybe 10. Not as much as usual because I have a job.
Hours Total: Maybe 200? Some of them are from middle school so I never counted.

Place:Library
Hours this summer: Probably 15
Hours Total: Probably 30

I have that much because I work 8 hours almost everyday I have off. I don’t have many other ECs though. I’m president of a club at school, but other than that and the hospital, I have no other ECs.

Place: local children’s science museum
Hours this summer: 80, by the end of this week
Hours total: 480+ at the science museum, plus at least 200 of miscellaneous things.
Why: started in 6th grade and returned every summer. I like science, so I guess it just fit for me. Don’t think colleges will find it too impressive, but whatever, I like it.

1200 hours. Whistle gosh ill have 140 hrs max. should i have 1000+ is it better for college?

Place: the nursery at my church (I take care of the 3s and 4s during the first service) and help with things like art camp and VBS
Hours this summer: probably like 30
Hours total: No idea xD. I’ve done this every week since 6th grade, though.
Why: I love working with children :). That’s the reason why I also have a job at a children’s party place and babysit the kids of family friends. My dream job would be to work at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as a scientist, helping children.

@eswara20 I don’t think the number of hours matter as much as consistency and where you are volunteering. If you’re interested in medicine, spend time at a hospital. I have about 150 hours there, which I know is nowhere near 1000, but I’ve consistently gone to volunteer with something I have interest in. :)
