Where are you volunteering? survey

Hospital volunteering is not impressive if that is the reason why you are doing it. At hospitals in my area, you get the mail, file some papers, serve orange juice in the lobby, and menial stuff like that. It angers me off when kids think they are so cool because they waste time in the hospital. If your hospital allows you to do something legit, then I applaud you for that. The hospitals in my area don’t allow you to do real volunteering. Just a rant, sorry if I made anyone mad. I’m just tryna say, do something that you enjoy, and try to make a difference.

I just started volunteering at a local nature museum. So far only 2 hours (I’m doing 2 hours every thursday for the summer, just started last week). Hopefully by the end I’ll have…10? I generally do maintenance for some of the reptiles (give snakes clean water, clean out the bearded dragon enclosures, give the dragons baths, etc.). I like it a lot.

Place(s): Nursing Home
Hours Worked this Summer: 20 (3 hours every saturday)
Hours worked total: 144
Why? I used to visit it all the time as a kid.

Like I said, I have no other ECs, so hopefully my volunteering makes up for it. The hospital I work at allows me to take care of the babies and toddlers who are orphans. Plus pediatric medicine is what I want to go into. What admissions officers say stand out is passion. So find a place to volunteer at that relates to your future career if possible

Place: Public library
Hours worked this Summer: 17 (3/week)
Hours worked total: Somewhere around 85
Why? Needed to be productive last summer, even though I wasn’t even in high school. Now I love doing it, especially since the staff is so friendly.

The funny thing is that at the beginning I didn’t want to volunteer at all, but I actually ended up meeting my girlfriend there. So, I guess it was I good decision to volunteer.
