I have an ACT score of 33 (Reading 30, Science 33, Math 36) and I'm in the top 15% of my class. By the end of my senior year i will have taken 8 AP classes. Extracurriculars include soccer outside of school and band through my junior year. I want to go to a decent college, doesn't matter what kind of setting as long as the class size is fairly large (atleast 5000+). My parents said they can only pay $10,000 a year so does anyone know of any good colleges that'll give me a decent scholarship? I live in Texas.Thank you!!

What is your unweighted and weighted GPA? Intended major?

Are your parents able to pay $10,000 out of pocket/ savings/ loans in their names? If so, your baseline budget is approximately $15,500 per year before any possible need based grants or merit. $10,000 from parents and $5500 in a federal student loan which you can take in your name.

Have you run Net Price Calculators on the sites for schools that interest you?

Where in Texas do you live? There may local schools that you can come close to covering with your parents $10,000 and a $5500 loan in your name if you commute from home.

If your family qualifies for a Pell grant, or state or college grant aid, or you win significant merit aid at a particular institution you may be able to come close to the cost of tuition, room, and board at some schools.

A little more research on your part, and more information about your specifics will allow posters to give you more specific information and potential options.

Have you checked the automatic full tuition/full ride scholarship thread at the top of this forum? There are many schools that will give you full tuition scholarships or better, even a few full rides. Though you didn’t list your UW GPA, but I’m assuming it’s fairly high. Did you take PSAT? Any chance of NMSF? If so, there is a whole different set of scholarships you would qualify for and a separate thread for that in the National Merit forum.

Alabama will give you free tuition…worth about 100k total

since you wont get into UT because of your rank, Bama is a great option. Texas is the #1 state to send kids to Bama because of those rankings rules of UT.

the freshman class will have about 400 Texas students each year.

what is your major?

with your parents 10k and a student loan of 5,500, you would really have your costs covered.

what is your major? If engg or comp sci, you would get another 2500 per year.

since your parents can pay 10k, their income is probably way beyond a Pell grant. sounds like you already know that you wouldn’t qualify for enough need based aid beyond that 10k.

If so, then very large merit is the way to go.

Look at the pinned threads at the top of this forum.

Amazing how UAlabama is mentioned in just about every thread…

Well, Alabama gets mentiioned a lot in the scholarship threads because it is so generous for high stats…even to intls like you.
