So I haven’t done really well in school especially freshmen year but I have shown growth. UW GPA: 3.16
WGPA: 3.61
ACT:34
I have some extra curriculars but what are some good schools for me? I am really interested in Emory… in the future I want to purse a career in dentistry. I am currently a second semester Junior in HS. I took AP Euro sophomore year and this year I am currently in 5 AP’s:
AP PHYSICS 1
AP BIOLOGY
AP COMP SCI PRINCIPALS
AP LANGUAGE AND COMP
AP US HISTORY

Emory’s not really in the cards for you with a 3.1 uw.
Look at Marist, Denison, St Lawrence, sewanee, Rhodes, Fairfield, Berry, Pitt, JMU, UMW, CNU, ole Miss, Loyola MD, Loyola Chicago, St Louis university, u Scranton, u Dayton.
Perhaps straight A grades here on in, exellent ACT or SAT scores, excellent AP exam results, and a gap year so that you are applying with your final senior year grades.
Dental School is expensive, and admission is based heavily on your college grades. You should be looking for the place that you can get through your undergrad with the best grades and least cost.
Keep going like this. Take 4 or 5 APs senior year. Work on your essays over the summer. Take subject tests in 2-3 subjects you feel you can show how much you’re capable of. Apply to as many schools as you can in September or October. Apply to the honors colleges.
Once all of that is done, apply to Emory.
But build your list first, with two safeties you can afford and have visited to make sure you like them, then 3-5 matches, then reaches.
For you, a safety is a school with a 3.0-3.2 average GPA, a match is a school with a 3.3-3.6 GPA range, and anything above that is a reach.
Look into the CTCL colleges in particular, as well as holistic schools and schools that prioritize test scores over GPA (like ole Miss).
Run the NPC on all the colleges listed in #1 above, bring the results to your parents.
You could apply to Oxford College at Emory. As I understand it, they aren’t quite as selective as Emory and you move to the main Emory U campus after two years at Oxford. You end up with an Emory degree.
Get that GPA as high as you can and hope that they recognize the intelligence and knowledge inherent in a 34.
While Oxford may be slightly less selective, just keep in mind that the acceptance rate at Oxford is still low at 29%, middle 50 GPA 3.68 - 3.95 UW, ACT 30-34 (compare to Emory 22% acceptance rate, middle 50 GPA 3.75 - 3.98 UW, ACT 31-34). Also, Oxford saw a 47% increase in ED1 apps this year. Good luck!
Have Oxford-Emory as your ultimate reach and apply ED1, but apply to lots and lots of other schools.
For now, run the NPC on Georgia State and Georgia College or Kennesaw State (assuming you’re in state GA, if not do the same with your state’s universities) as well as Agnes Scott and Wesleyan College (if girl), plus Berry and a few others listed before on the thread. Bring the results to your parents. There should be at least 3 publics and 3 instate privates + 3 OOS privates to even things out, including obviously Oxford Emory. Use the documents to discuss budget and prices.
