can i enter ESL Penn state as a 17 year old student? I can mb say that i dont have hgi hschool diploma it can be easier no?
Why would you want to say you don’t have a high school diploma???
The PSU program required you to be above 15. The IU required a HS diploma. Apply to either one since Canadian programs are split between 13-17 and18+.
Do you have a high school diploma? If so, you can’t say that you don’t. One of our colleges just expelled a student for lying on their application. Make sure you fill yours out completely and accurately.
@ilvermornyisolt , Have you compared Penn State with a program that gives certificate of proficiency for college admission? See these, for example: https://www.els.edu/en/study-english-for-international-students/academic-english-programs/intensive-english-usa
"…Making the choice to attend a college or university in the US can be a big decision for international students, but with the help of our Intensive English program, ELS can help you prepare for academic success. If your goal is to learn English for college or university study abroad, or if you wish to apply for conditional admission to any of the 600+ universities ELS is partnered with, Intensive English may be the right choice for you.
With 12 levels of English language proficiency (from Beginner to Masters), Intensive English covers a wide range of abilities, and can easily prepare you for your academic future.
Certificate of Completion
Successful completion of Level 112 of the Intensive English program earns you a Certificate of Completion that is accepted by ELS’s 600+ college and university partners as proof of the English proficiency needed for admission, and many two-year partner colleges will accept Level 109.
Space in Masters classes permitting, if you successfully complete Intensive English Level 112 and wish to continue to study the Masters curriculum, you may pursue three additional modules of Masters content for additional challenge and growth."
When I look at the Penn State course, I don’t understand how proficient one becomes. It seems you would still need TOEFL or other test to enroll in college.
^ I suggested a similar program on the Eckerd campus as well as a program at IU.
The main advantage to the PSU program is that it accepts under 18s and 18+(and it takes place at a college op expressed interest in attending).
I looked at several programs in Quebec beside Concordia’s and all separate 17s from 18s and OP would be 17 at the start and 18 in the middle of the program.
Op can look at MSU himself to see if they offer something.
Guys as i said earlier, ( i dont want to have negativ reactions im sorry in advance) i lookekd these problems etc and PSU and IU are the best. I wanted to say something very important, beside of business schools, i love law,
In a scale of 1 to 10, where 10 is the goal subject
-Business 8
-Law 9
-Economics 7
If there are any paths that i can take for law school d onot hesitate to share it, im saying this because i recieved many help for business and economics ( you guys are amazing) and i want to know more about law!
Law is a terrible idea because it’s not portable, each country has its own laws.
Law in Canada means: cegep 2years → dual program at université Sherbrooke. (Common Law for English speaking Canada and the US, civil code for Quebec).
You’d have to apply now for cegep Sherbrooke PreU, starting this Fall (you can also start in January).
The best program is
https://www.cegepsherbrooke.qc.ca/fr/programmes-etudes/programmes-preuniversitaires/histoire-et-civilisation
Or
Get a BA (classics, History, Literature, philosophy, political science…), be among the best in your college, volunteer and do good work in your town helping others… then take tests and apply. In the US and most of Canada Law is a 3-year, post Bachelor’s degree.
Thanks for the info, very helpful as always. Is there any other way than Sherbrooke university? ( im just asking this, not bc i dont love sherbrooke but iwanted to know if it’s the only university who provides this)
As far as I know it’s the only one with a double degree (that works in Quebec, Canada, and the US).
You’d need super good grades in cégep to get in though.
Interesting… So sad that there is no law school at Concordia
You would need to complete your Bachelor’s degree first anyway before being able to think about law school.
Okay! im looking on the internet if there are other possible paths
I mean, i made researches, and there are no law school affordable for me. Which automatically means that i have to go to business school. And also i saw that there are medical schools i dont know if i precised but its also a thing that i love, but the thing is that idk how does it work in canada / usa! thanks in advance guys
In this thread, you have claimed to love: law, business, economics, and medicine. Did I forget any other “love”? You sound like my nephew when he was two years old. He was going to be a doctor and an astronaut and the President of the USA! It was cute when he was two… but then he grew up. You need to do some soul searching and figure out what you really want to do with your life… and what your real passion is. One common thread with those careers: the idea that you will be rich once you graduate. In order to do well in any of those professions, you need to A- Have the vocation/aptitude for that field and B-Do well in the classes. Your track record shows that so far, you have not been a superb student, so you would have to work really hard to do well. Odds are, if you are not truly passionate about your career choice, you will also not excel/stand out.
Forget medicine. Just like law, every country has its standards. If you are going to practice in Europe (which is where you have to return after you graduate), you need a degree from Europe. And… American universities are not fond of admitting international students into their programs. So you probably won’t be studying medicine in the US. Plus, if you cannot afford law school, how would you afford med school?
As I said above, you need to do some serious soul searching. What do you REALLY want to do when you grow up? B)
- If you don’t like the CEGEP (Western Civilisation program) → Dual law program, that’s ok. But CEGEP is free for French students and Sherbrooke is very inexpensive (well below any of the different numbers you gave in this thread). So, the issue isn’t cost.
- it had already been mentioned that law school is post-BA
- right now you need to figure out where you’re going to do your summer program. Solve that first.
Top university law school, business school, medical school…practicalities of studying law and medicine in the US when you can’t work here afterwards aside… they are ALL expensive. MBA programs are priced for corporates to pay the fees. You want to go to Harvard business school? MBA program is $110k cost of attendance, per year, and there are two years.
It will be much, much, much cheaper, not to mention more practical, to study medicine or law in Europe. And no decent mba program is going to take you straight out of undergrad.
OP, what is it that you want? You’ve professed a love for law, engineering, business, medicine, economics, and the airline industry. Your thread title is “where can I go,” but every deteor seems to lead to the same discussion about how it will impact your dream to go to the US. Please don’t spend a lot of your parents’ money on a program just because you think it will let you move to America.
@ilvermornyisolt why not apply to Intensive English for fall 2019 and admission to Concordia for Winter 2020?

Hello again guys. I just saw that i didnt mentioned medical in my favourite objectives so first of all that’s my bad. Second of all we dont need to do such a problem with my mistakes, im miss expressing myself sometimes, i have way too much ideas in my brain which means that im writing everything, but not at the same moment and i totally understand what do you guys r trying to mean i have to find something that im passioned about. Since im 2, i always wanted to become an airline pilot, it was a family job, but 1 year ago i just realized that the life style isnt corresponding to me, thats why i decided to find others subjects! Im very interested in Law, the reason why is that i love to speak, to defend a point of view, business school is cool but to be honest, i choosed business school bc it was like a large sector, and i was like ‘’ mathieu even if you dont find something, business is like a passport t to every job ‘’. Even if i love business, i want to say that LAW is like ‘’ goal ‘’ im sorry if im a bit frustrating…
