Hey guys! Really excited because I finished all my apps just now! I applied to quite a few schools. Which ones do you guys think I could hopefully get into? I know admissions are really unpredictable, but I would just like to know all of your thoughts. So I ended up applying to:

Would love your guys’ input! I’m really happy that I have SDSU as a backup now, though I really really really am hoping to get into a lot (maybe all? that would be really cool.) of the UCs and a couple of the east coast schools. My dream school is either UCSD, UC Berkeley, or Cornell. I know this is a long post Thanks!
UCD: in
UCI: in
UCR: in
UCSD: in
UCLA: like 90% sure you will get in
UCSB: in
UCSC: in
UC Berkeley: 75% sure you will get in
SDSU (already admitted)
SJSU: in
CP SLO: in
USC: in
Cornell: 75% sure you will get in
UPenn: like 70% sure you are getting in (business school is very competitive)
Stanford: you can never really know since its so prestigious but i think you have a good shot
WashU STL: dont know enough about this school
Carnegie Mellon: dont know enough about this school
Good luck with everything!!
You have great chances for all of these schools because of your high stats. You can get into all of these schools, but that does not mean that you will. Best of luck
Ok, we’ve got some very similar stats, and some similar places we’re applying. All of these odds are assuming that you’re applying to the general schools, and not engineering or business schools; your odds would drop a little if you were.
I’d say pretty confidently that you’ll get into all UCs but LA and Berkeley, which are more of a toss-up… but I’d still put you at around 60-70% odds there.
SDSU - I predict that you will be accepted here
SJSU, CP SLO - more than likely accepted
USC - Probably accepted
Cornell - Not sure here. It’s pretty tough to gauge Cornell decisions, because they really do look much more at ECs and essays than schools like the UCs. Your ECs don’t look outstanding, although you’ve clearl got some things you’re passionate about, but if you wrote really strong essays I’d guess you’ll get in.
UPenn - I’ll guess no, but not sure. I think of Upenn as a step above Cornell’s selectivity, so I’ll say denied or waitlisted here.
Stanford - I’ll guess no, as I’m sure youre expecting.
WashU STL - Kind of weird with their whole no essay but the common app thing, but I guess that means more emphasis on stats, so I’ll say accepted. I don’t fully understand their selectivity though.
Carnegie Mellon - Very very heavily dependent upon what school you’re applying to within it; if you’re applying to general sciences, then I’ll say a tentative acceptance. If you’re applying to engineering, I’m not sure. If you’re applying to comp sci for their comp. bio program, no way because their CS program is harder to get into than stanford.
But, nothing to do about any of it now. Good luck
thanks everyone! @waswaswasnt i’m applying to bio, chem, or biochem at all my schools.
If this helps future applicants, here are my results:
-Accepted: SDSU, SJSU, CP SLO, UCD, UCI (CHP), UCR (Chancellor’s), UCSD, UCSB (Honors), UCSC, UC Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon
-Waitlisted: UCLA, WUSTL, Cornell
-Denied: USC, Penn, Stanford
Congrats and thanks for the update. You have good choices and presume you’re a CA resident.
Also good for folks to see that high stats isn’t a guarantee anywhere. The first reply to your chance said in on USC but they get tougher every year.
@Sportsman88 Thanks and yes I definitely agree! The one thing I would say to incoming seniors is that the whole process is so unpredictable - you might not end up getting into schools that are classified as a “match” but you might end up getting into a “reach.” Also, remember that not getting into one school doesn’t mean you won’t get into others. After getting waitlisted at UCLA, I was sure that I wouldn’t get into any “more prestigious” schools, so to speak, but then I got into Cal and CMU. Just remain positive throughout the process and remember that anything can happen!
