Where did your seniors go last year?

I'm thinking that where your senior years went last year may be an
indication of where you may land up next year. Well, at least on the
average ... your mileage may vary.

So, I took a look at my large (~450 graduates) CA public high school
newspaper and here's what I found.
- More than 10% went to UC Berkeley
- About 40% went to some UC
- The largest contingents were to UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCI in order
- About 5% went to the top tier privates with six to Stanford
and one or two each to Harvard, Columbia, Penn, USC, NW, MIT,
CalTech etc.

I'm in the top 10% of my class in grades, scores, EC etc. So my
guess is that the odds are pretty high that I might end up in UCB or UCLA after all? I know this varies year to year and the dice will roll.
Am I totally off base on this?

I'm interested to know what others can tell me about their schools.

9 to brown

Son goes to a private prep school with about 200+ seniors/year. Last year, two went to local community college, one traveled. The rest went to:

Boston U (12)
Santa Clara U (6)
UCalifornia (10, including 3 at UCLA)
UHawaii (26)
USoCaL (26)
U Pacific (6)
U Penn (4)

Boston College (3)
WUStL (3)
Willamette U (4)
U Puget Sound (3)
The rest went to various other schools, including some highly rated schools, LACs & many state schools & private colleges.

My school sends people off to ivies occasionally {Cornell, Princeton, I think Duke too}. The class' size is about 400.

Last year:

NYU: 2
American: 1 {turned down Princeton ;O}
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute: 3 or 4

I don't remember right now, I'm really tired.

But people got accepted to Princeton, Northwestern, Cornell, University of Virginia, and the like.

We have about 60 people in each grade. Our val went to St. Olaf, and everyone else either went to a state school (about 35 percent), a community college (about 10 percent), a tech school (about 35 percent), or just started working (about 20 percent.) My school sucks.

i go to a public school in NJ, but 97% go to a four-year college (and the other 3% go to community college).

Last year:
Princeton - 1
Cornell - 2
Columbia - 2
Stanford - 3 (one got a full ride)
UPenn - 1
Dartmouth - 2
Duke - 2
MIT - 2

Class size is about 280.

In our typical class of 50 (Catholic suburban)...

Ivies ~5%
Notre Dame/BC/Georgetown ~5%
Other Catholic Schools ~15%
In-state private (Wooster, Denison, OH Northern) ~25%
In-state public (mostly OSU, Miami) ~35%
Other out-of-states ~15%

i go to a michigan public high school (class size around 350)

these are people whom i personally know:
harvard-1
yale-2
brown-1
berkeley-1
michigan-at least 40ish
etc.

there are probably others

suburban Philly 500 kids competitive
less than 10% left the state, 2 or 3 ago Ivy League each year, and a handful more to the top LACS. PSU, main campus and branches very popular as is Pitt and Temple. Lesser states get about 10% of the grads. Local colleges, Widener, Neuman, St Joes etc about 20%. Local Community college close to 10 %. Wealthier decent student types go to places like Dickinson, Muhlenberg, Moravian, Gettysburg etc. Very few travel more than a couple of hundred miles.

Of a graduating class of roughly 350 students:

Brown University - 2 (3 admitted)
Cornell University - 0 (4 admitted)
Dartmouth College - 2 (3 admitted)
Georgetown University - 3 (9 admitted)
Harvard University - 1 (5 admitted)
Stanford University - 8 (13 admitted)
Princeton University - 2 (4 admitted)
Yale University - 3 (5 admitted)
University of Pennsylvania - 2 (2 admitted)
University of California, Berkeley - 28 (54 admitted)

S's central city public HS in the northwest, 191 our of 405 went to college, many to top tier private & public universities and LAC's, 9 to Stanford alone, 1 UChicago, 2 Harvard, 2 Princeton, 3 Columbia, 2 Dartmouth, 5 Brown, 1 Cornel, 1 UPenn, and more. Students tend to go pretty much where they want to go.

~30 to UW-Madison
~25 to Marquette
~20 to St. Norberts
~100 to a whole lot of random schools no one here will have heard of
1 to NYU
1 to Notre Dame
1 to University of Chicago
1 to Boston College
1 to Georgetown

For the sake of interest, I'll only mention the schools that CC people seem to be interested in. Out of a class of ~120 people(This is just for one year):

Amherst College - 1

Brown University - 5

Carleton College - 3

Columbia University - 7

Cornell University - 6

Dartmouth College - 2

Duke University - 1

Emory University - 1

George Washington University - 4

Georgetown University - 1

Harvard University - 5

University of Michigan - 2

Middlebury College - 3 **

New York University - 1

Northwestern University - 2

Oberlin College - 2

Pitzer College - 1

University of Pennsylvania - 5

Pomona College - 3

Rhode Island School of Design - 1

Skidmore College - 3

Stanford University - 2

Swarthmore College - 1

Tufts University - 1

Vanderbilt University - 5

Vassar College - 4

University of Wisconsin - 6

Washington University - 2

Wellesley College - 1

Wesleyan University - 1

Williams College - 1

Yale University - 6

28% of that class went to an Ivy league. But our school's college destinations are nothing compared to Andover or other top ranked boarding schools... :)

A comment about the "only schools CC people " would be intersted in and the "100 to a whole lot of random schools no one here will have heard of"

While I appreciate you may not want to give a complete redition... this is why users should understand that large numbers of kids areg oing (and beign successful) at schools other than the top20 etc school.

I forget the numbers but something 1mm kids graduate from high school each year and Harvard takes 2000 --as they say you do the math.

regardless of your grades/scores etc there is an opportunity to start from where you are at and achieve in college
