I'm going to be a freshman at Ohio State majoring in finance and plan on applying to transfer to a top 15-20 university. I am stuck with OSU after slacking in hs, therefore my app wouldn't have been competitive for top20. That being said, I'm considering applying to:
Northwestern
UChicago
Penn- Wharton
Vanderbilt
Georgetown
NYU
UM-Ross

If I'm able to maintain a high gpa my freshman year (3.7+) would I have a decent shot, or will my hs gpa(3.45, 28 act) hurt me?

If you really want it, you will also consider staying another year at OSU, because transferring with mediocre high school grades may require sacrificing your first couple years to another school. Nothing is impossible, but you have to work for it, and one semester of intro level classes at a state school isn’t that impressive (not to mention, you haven’t even started).
