Hey, I'm a junior at prestigious private school and I'm just about to start my college search. I've already met with my college counsellor and she proposed several places. I was just wondering what the general public thinks about where I would fit best. THanks!

Stuff about me:
Adopted Korean (1st Generation)
GPA: 3.59... we don't weigh grades (which i think is dumb)... no class ranks
PSATS-190
PLAN-29
ACT-28 (ya that was bad)
SATS: ??? 2000ish

Adv./AP Classes:
Freshman: Adv. Spanish 2, Adv. Geometry and Algebra
Soph: Adv. Spanish 3, Adv. Functions, Stats, Trig, Adv. Chem, AP Euro (3, i don't like history too much)
Junior: AP Spanish 4, AP AB Calc, AP Chem, AP US, Adv. Physics
Proposed Senior: AP Spanish 5, AP BC Calc, AP Physics, AP Econ, AP Lit
Probably the toughest schedule anyone has at my school.....

EC's
i'm an active participant in my school.. i'm on every academic club/team including science olympiad and TEAMS... i do all the plays... i'm in jazz/pep bands.... amnesty international, student newspaper, arts committee.... i used to play soccer, i play tennis though.... i perform at a professional theater in the summer... i'm planning on attending a pre college program this summer at either stanford, cornell, washu....

So where do u think i should be or looking at?

think you should look at rutger, great school with great food,
also maybe dartmouth (just b/c i love the school, hopefully i'll get in lol)
28 is not bad, it's above average.
i think you should also consider michigan ann arbor, maybe chicago and amherst (since you want to major in science, it's not too difficult to get in to science there i think, since Amherst is a LAC)

i think amherst, dartmouth and chicago are a little high.. well maybe not amherst, they love URMs. You should take a look at a lot of LAC's like oberlin, grinnell, Lewis and Clark.. if you're just looking to get started, I'd recommend teh US News and World Report book, it has a list of all the colleges and their average SAT scores. Thats about all the US News book is good for, is to find names so you can look up colleges on the web.. otherwise, dont trust rankings.

Asians are definitely not an URM :-p. I'd say you have a decent chance at U Chicago/Amherst/Dartmouth though. You just need to raise those SAT scores and your GPA.

Hey man, you guys are being a little bit harsh. Remember that most of the Asians who make up the majority of the Asian populations are from Japanese and Chinese descent.
Kid, I think you can go to any school you want to do......You obviously are extremely smart and you are taking the most challenging classes at a very prestigious high school. You are already a junior and you have a 28 ACT.....which means you're bound to have even higher scores on that test and the SAT. Your ACT score will probably jump to a 33-34 if you continue to develop your math and verbal skills. If you grab leadership positions in the clubs you're in, you can go anywhere......think Harvard, Stanford, and Princeton, Dartmouth and other top schools. You have to make sure you place emphasis on your Korean descent and how that culture has shaped your view on life.

Where do you live, what are you planning to major in, what are your interests, and what kind of environment do you prefer (large urban, small rural, in between)? By the way, my son is also an adopted Korean, and wants to attend a school with a considerable Asian population. (His local public schools has that.) Johns Hopkins, UMCP, and University of Chicago have high Asian populations. But this may not be a factor with you.

well.. i like in missouri, i probably am going into science, i would prefer medium-large urban private schools....

my college counsellor said i should look at

Northwestern
USC
Cornell
Emory
Carleton
Univeristy of Rochester

O ya and about my ACT score, considering i got a 33 on the practice, a 28 is relatively bad.. i didn't mean bad in general, my apolgies... and also, i'm a twinkie so being asian doesn't mean that much to me, it's just on the outside, i have no real tie wtih my asiannss

omg kid, you need to stop hating yourself. just work harder and ask for help. english is your second language so low scores are understandable. the whining gets really annoying tho...
