With the regular decision deadline for Stanford coming up soon, I'm wondering where else you will be applying just in case Stanford doesn't send the thick envelope. My son (high school class of 2010) will almost surely apply to Stanford, but we are always looking at other colleges with interesting programs for math-liking young people. What do you hope to study at Stanford? Where else are you applying?

I'm going for Stanford, Dartmouth and Princeton (top choices.) Then going for matches/safeties. (although as a poor international I dont really have safeties lol)

That sounds like a fine list of colleges.

My son actually likes computers better than math. If he doesn't get into MIT or Caltech he'll be applying to Harvard, Stanford (probably 2nd choice over Caltech), Harvey Mudd, Carnegie-Mellon, RPI and WPI.

My son plans to be a math major. He's probably applying to Harvard, MIT, Princeton, and Stanford. I think these and possibly Caltech are the best places for undergraduate math, with UC Berkeley, and U Chicago in the next group. (Cal has a great math department but I see the school's huge size as a drawback.) I'm less clear on which schools come next- Cornell? Michigan? Or some of the LAC's?

Thanks for the reply.

Noting that both of the previous replies picked up on my mention of my son's interest in math, I should say that I'm glad to hear from anyone here who is a current applicant to Stanford, interested in any subject, about where else they are sending applications this year.

I'm a Stanford SCEA-er. I've also applied to Cal, UC Davis, UCSB, UC Riverside, and UCLA. I'm in the process of applying to SUNY Stony Brook, Harvard, Cornell, and Columbia. :)

I'm also a Stanford SCEA Applicant. Other than Stanford, I'm applying to Harvard, PRinceton, Penn, Cornell, Duke, UMD, UVA, and northwestern.

im prayin that i wont have to submit these though.

my other top choices are princeton, yale, penn, and williams. i'll apply to a few safeties too. i'm not much of a harvard guy because i hear its not a very fun place but i'll probably apply anyways because they give a lot of financial aid and i could use the money.

i applied to stanford EA, 3 UCs for backup (i live in california), and soon...yale, princeton, wash u (scholars program), and columbia. like goeagles, hopefully i won't have to send the last 4 in...

I also applied to Stanford SCEA, and I'm sending out RD applications to HYPM, Cornell, Duke, Upenn, and Carnegie Mellon as top choices. I'd like to major in computer science and political science.

Thanks for the reply. Still curious to hear from others.

Stanford SCEA top choice, with close seconds in Yale, MIT, and UPenn. Others include Swarthmore, JHU, UMich and a bunch others.

stanford scea, then in rough order of interest, brown, dartmouth, columbia, yale, mit, harvard, middlebury, wash u, and some safeties.

stanford scea- already admitted to West Point. If I don't get into Stanford I'll probably apply to Carnegie Mellon and Columbia

funfetti: 8 school AND THEN some safeties!? do you really want to go to college that badly?

yeah lol its an issue. been frantically trying to cut my list down, rather unsuccessfully.

I found that cutting my list down was suprisingly easy once I had to actually apply, writeessays, etc

Hmmm, besides stanford, i am applying to harvard, princeton, yale, williams college and uiuc.

LOL! Yep, those practical issues do make a difference.
