Where have you FINALLY decided to go for 2005?

To GirlEnigma- I experienced co-ed for a long time, currently I go to a single-sex school. While single-sex is good for some people, indeed, I think a bunch of my classmates should be there because their hormones will get the better of them and it's just an environment that's good for them, it's not for me.

I really miss having guy friends who are just fun to talk with and to hang with, and co-ed is fun in that regard. Also, while co-ed can make some girls dumb themselves down, it makes me a lot more competative. It brings out my doggedness to prove my equality, which makes me me.

I'm not saying that the only reason people go to single-sex is because of hormones, and it did have its perks, but the better fit is co-ed for me. But Emma Willard is one heck of a school, and you should consider yourself lucky and proud to go to such a fine school. ROCK ON!!!

Hi Zafira! Thanks, I'm glad to be going to Emma Willard! :D

I can understand what you said about attending single sex. It's cool you aren't one of those girls who spaz out like they've never talked to a guy before- desperate to get his attention like a puppy dog or something. That behavior creeps me out!

I don't know why I'm going to single sex (normally avoided the subject) but I was attracted to the school itself! I WILL miss guys, but I feel it will be a big, fun, girly sleepover at E.W., lol. Sisters. Bonds. Etc and so forth!

Competitiveness? Hmm...well, I think the competition sector will be the same for me, whether it's against another girl or some guy. Guys aren't much smarter or anything! lol. Just at co-ed, SOME girls appear more stupid because they don't want to say the answer to a question their boyfriend didn't get. Silly things!

What school are you going to? What is it like living with a gazillion gals?

I have no idea how girls react when there are no guys around...I have a feeling there will be less b*tchiness, jealousy, silly flirting, blubbering about clothes and hair etc.

Do the girls finally RELAX?

Seriously, all my girl friends at my current co-ed school are like rubber bands ready to snap at any moment (they often do, poor things)!

Damned hormones. :)

Whoa, this is from a guy perspective. I actually never even thought of applying to an all-boys school, it was a complete turn-off, and not just because there are no girls. I mean in science I usually like working with girls better because they are more willing to work together, instead of spearheading everything (not to suck up to girls)...anyway. I really agree with Zafira though.

Miss Porters School is my choice for the next 4 years! I really cant wait- my sister went there and it was probably the most positive experience of her life.

i will attend Peddie School in New Jersey this fall. Does anyone here know this school?

ZTT, Iam familar with peddie. My d was accepted last year to peddie. She did not decide to attend primarily because of the larger day to boarding ratio. Peddie is a very good school across the board. I have not checked recently to see if the new science center is completed, but it's going to be a tremendous asset for the school. I hope you enjoy your time at peddie. consider yourself very fortunate to be attending such a school. My college roomate went to peddie. good luck!

haha yep thank you very much!
I am a student from Shanghai, China, so it is very rare for an international student like me to get in a US boarding school, especially in China. Last year, the dean of admission of Peddie flew to Shanghai and gave interview to almost 30 prospective students, me being one. And this March, I heard good news from the school though. It is said peddie just admitted two students from mainland China this year. How lucky I am.

However, I asked several foreign friends about the school. They even said they didn't know such a school.... So I wonder the rank of Peddie. cuz you know, our chinese people often consider the rank. Anyway, Peddie is an excellent from your post. I am sure I will enjoy great days in Peddie soon. :P

Peddie is a wonderful school with awesome facilities. It is very close to Princeton. S is in another school in the same league with Peddie. We know a number of kids who go to Peddie and they are all very happy. It is quite well known on the east coast of the US. It is not considered to be at the level of Exeter, Andover et al, but that doesn't matter. It is very highly-regarded. Congrats on your acceptance.

So what on earth is going on at St. Paul's? At breakfast today a friend with a cousin there told me that alumni are seeking to oust their head of school. Someone got all the parent's email addresses and started sending emails about him and some trustees. I guess the NH Attorney General is involved. Anyone know what gives?

As for those of you who are currently sophomores, would you prefer a prep school or an acceptance directly into college? As I am a sophomore heading into college next year, I will have more choice of courses in what would be my senior year in HS than what I would get in Thomas Jefferson HS in Alexandria, VA.

Also the privilege to slack off for the last semester of sophomore year is also appealing.

If you prefer a prep school, it's mostly for the social life, right?

Suze, I've sent you a PM. I'd certainly like to know more as we make our final list of schools. SPS was on top.

wow.. don't those prep schools cost as much as colleges? 30,000 ~ 40,000 per year; gosh! you guys are so lucky to have parents like that. I thought a crap high school would enable easier grades and better class ranks, but I really want to be in an academic atmosphere.

tlqkf2002--- Not everyone can afford prep schools... I mean, the only reason I'm going is because I had to fill out a form and request financial aid, and these people were really nice to me and gave me a huge grant... they're paying for more than 3/4 of my tuition. I am so grateful, and am going to prep school, and I sure as heck can't afford it otherwise...

I want the challenge. I want the intensity and the knowledge I can gain rather than just getting into an Ivy (though I want to). That's why I'm going.

tlqkf2002----
Had it not been for the near full grant our son recieved, we would have no choice but to resort to the public schools. We never paid our child for A's on his report card over the years. But I told him those grades would pay off big one day. That day has come.

ZTT - Hey, do you go to SAS or SIS or some international school? Or do you mean they accepted two real Chinese nationals? Because I know lots of people in China that have been accepted to very high ranked prep schools, including myself (Exeter, Andover and the likes), and one of my friends who goes to SAS was crossadmitted at Exeter, Andover, Milton, and Deerfield. By the way, I know a boy in Beijing whose brother got admitted to Peddie as an 11th grader and is matriculating (at least, I think he did).

I also would never be able to attend prep school without financial aid.

Zafira: congrats on your marvelous achievement and same for your son fxMom. It makes me wonder what I've done all these years while others have been meeting the challenge.

Estayr-

No I don't go to international schools, instead I am currently study in a domestic key highschool in Shanghai, which is Shanghai No.3 Girls' Highschool. Yep I know quite many excllent students have been accepted to top US boarding schools, and they did really good job there. I think more US schools start to realized the Chinese students especially those top one and of course they are willing to admit a few of them to differ their diversity. The boy's brother you know in Beijing was admitted to which academic year in Peddie? Fall 2005? I heard this year Peddie admitted two students from Mainland China, myself being one. So I always wonder who is the other guy, and maybe he is ur friend's brother. HAHA, it is fortunate. Ur friend who was crossadmitted by Andover, Milton, Exeter and Deerfield is such a strong applicant. I have never seen a Chinese student been admitted by four tops prep schools!!!! It's amazing though. =)

The percentage of accepted students who chose Andover this year: 74%
The percentage of accepted students who chose Exeter this year: 58%

Andover's acceptance rate: 21% (not countign preliminary apps)
Exeter's acceptance rate: 27% (counting preliminary apps)

Doesnt seem to be much of a competition!
