Schools You're Choosing Between

Sorry to those who were accepted nowhere. It must be extremely annoying to see threads like these, but anyway I'm curious and I need advice.

Here are the schools I was accepted to:
Taft
Lawrenceville
Middlesex
Peddie

Thoughts? I've sort of ranked them in that order, but I'm sure it'll change with revisits. I never got to visit L'ville, but it seems to be the most academically strong. Is my assumption correct? So it's possible that it could move up to number one with revisits.

Feel free to list/rank the schools you're choosing between. I feel that this thread could be very helpful to everyone.

I am accepted to Taft and Lawrenceville. Most definitely attending Lville though!

Yeah, I feel like I will have a hard time choosing between them if I decide to go to boarding school. Care to share why you chose L’ville?

It’s close to my grandpa who lives 30 mins away. . .so it would be easier for me to adjust as an incoming international. And Lville’s dorm is way better  though I have a friend currently at Taft.

That’s nice. Never seen the dorms!

Do you think L’ville is stronger academically than Taft?

Choate & Hotchkiss. Leaning towards Choate though…anyone have any advice? :)

And congrats @helloel & @EnemyoftheSun! :D

Thanks! And no, I don’t have anything to say about those schools, sorry! I didn’t even look at them at all, but congrats to you too!

Of course…YAY PEDDIE! Rah rah rah!

I could give 16 different rankings just on what I know then another 100 different rankings based on my perspective ranging from food, dorms, faculty age and hair color or lack thereof, dogs on campus, campus size and relation to town, you catch my drift. Go to the revisits and develop your own perspective. I can almost guarantee that whichever school you pick, that it most definitely will be number 1 not only on your list but when ever anyone asks it will be #1.

I would choose Hotchkiss because I have a strong dislike for Choate. . .I initially pronounced them “Choo-eight” then it got awkward.

@helloel: I know in person one student at Taft and one at Lawrenceville…though I’m much closer to the one at Taft. Both are academically rigorous but Lville seems to offer more courses and overall, is a tad better academically (again, depends on which course you take really).

@ops That’d be so helpful (as I can’t go to any of the revisit days)! :(

& @helloel Haha, that’s okay :D

ops: Thanks, I know you can rank schools a variety of different ways, some of which would be greatly dependent upon opinions, but I was just curious. I will definitely be attending all the revisit days, but just want to hear from CCers.

Hahaha I initially pronounced Choate as “Choh-eight”. I still do in my head, hehe.

I like the community at Peddie…the academics aren’t bad. I think that coming in as a junior would be easy…the school is very accepting, and the community is super warm.

Of course there are schools of higher stature there, but obviously I will wholeheartedly advocate for Peddie!

It is interesting to see that Peddie’s selectivity is more rigorous (about 19%) than any of these other schools, yet Peddie is viewed as being the less school, somehow. Se boarding-schoolsDOTfindthebestDOTcom

@ aubreygal, like most, your choice can be difficult especially if unable to attend the revisits. There are differences between Choate and Hotchkiss. I can only suggest really absorbing their websites also check out you tube for school videos. This is not to be antagonizing process but an inquisitive exploration to be approached with a purely positive perspective where you can’t go wrong with your final decision. Kind of like deciding between a BMW and Lexus.

@helloel OMG I did that, too! When I first started applying, I called the admission office and I was all “Hi, is the the Cho-eight admission office?” and she was like “Yes, this is the CHO-OAT office, how can I help you?” I was so embarrassed, I just asked a random, general question and called back with my real question and the right pronunciation a few days later! xD

Hahaha that’s hilarious! My dad was the one to correct me on my pronunciation though.

Anyway, I really hope you consider Peddie!

I absolutely will! I should be at the revisit! Thanks for hanging around the forum to share your opinion! It’s great to hear from current students.

I was accepted to all three schools that I applied to. Peddie, Stuart and George.

I do not think i will be attending Stuart because I live in PA and I love the idea of a real boarding school experience. However, I am completely torn between George and Peddie.

I have received enough FA to attend all three schools, so that is not a problem. Now, I have to decide!

My sister is currently a student at Peddie (class of 2013) and my father (deceased) attended George. I am spilt between the two and I have no idea how to decide.

Do any of you have any advice or reasons why you chose your school?

All help is appreciated!
