I been looking at craiglist 24/7 and doesn't seem to be able to find a good place... I was just wondering.. where is everyone going to live at if not on campus?

I settled on a room for around $720 w/o utilities. Higher than I wanted to pay, but it was cleanest out of the other places I checked out and its only about a 5-10 minute walk to campus. It’s only going to get more competitive as August approaches so if you find a place you like act fast. What exactly are looking for? Also check out Cal-rentals if haven’t already.

Many people get roomates. This is because rent is expensive in Berkeley, especially if it is walking distance from campus.

1 br apartment right south of campus

I found a place on Cal Rentals in June. It’s in North Berkeley and I am paying $600/mo incl. utilities.

Why is North Berkeley so much cheaper than south berkeley? Is it the distance from the dorms and frat row?

See this thread. I lived on Southside last year and I’m planning on living there again this year. I don’t go to parties or frats and I like it just fine (unlike the majority of posters in that other thread). Southside just seems to have more going on (I only visited Northside once all last year though).

i know it seems like a long ways, but i live about a 30-minute walk from campus. rent is cheaper (more or less) the farther away from campus you go. plus, for me the exercise is never a bad thing! don’t just look in the berkeley craigslist section, go to oakland/rockridge/claremont, oakland/piedmont, north oakland, north berkeley/hills, etc… some houses and apartments are right on the border of berkeley and are a quick bus ride to school.

good luck w/your search!
