Where is the closest sports store?

I need to get tennis shoes(like the proper ones for playing tennis), a tennis raquet, and tennis balls. Where is the closest store to get these? Is there an Academy or something close to campus? I don't have a car so I would have to take the bus.

There’s always the store in Gregory Gym… although I doubt they have shoes.

You could take the UT Lake Austin shuttle bus to REI. It’s near Whole Foods, Book People and Anthropologie. It drops you off in front of Amy’s Ice Cream and you just have to cross the street to get to it.

Otherwise go on google maps and search for Academy or some other sports store in Austin and use the bus option for directions; it’ll tell you what bus to take and whatnot.

Hi, longhorn15,

I’m a mom and live in Austin, so I’ll try to help.

Unfortunately, REI doesn’t do tennis, and I can’t think of any sporting goods stores that are that convenient to UT. I agree Academy would be your best bet in terms of inventory and pricing. Here’s a Google map with all of the Academy locations: [google maps academy sports and outdoors austin tx - Google Maps](http://g.co/maps/cusk)

When I put the store locations in the “Service Nearby” tool, it seemed the 801 E William Cannon store had the nearest bus stop–you could take the 1M North Lamar/South Congress bus from Guadalupe at 21st. I’ve never played around with the trip planner. It’s pretty cool! You probably already figured this out, but you can click on the bus route and download a PDF, and you can click the links for the stops and see pictures of the area.
Of course, if you could find someone with a car who’s up for a road trip, it would be even better! In that case, I’d recommend the Brodie Lane Academy simply because there are a lot of stores in that part of town (along Brodie and also along the 290/71 access road between Brodie and Westgate) plus it’s easy to get there via South Lamar and return via South Congress, both of which are popular restaurant/retail streets with trailer eateries, vintage stores and other fun and “weird Austin” stuff.

Hope you figure something out!
