I was looking at the common app, and there is no section for legacy. There is a family section but that only has room for parents, not other relatives. Also, it would send legacy information to other colleges other than the one your trying to get legacy status from. How do I mention legacies?

The section that asks for legacy is on the individual school’s own supplement, not on the common app. Definitely mention it, as it will work in your favor.

Ok im a little confused. sorry haha.

Is the supplement sent seperatly from the common application? if so, won’t it be confusing for colleges since theyll have to find both applications in their files and compare them?

Each school’s supplement is different. One school’s supplement may ask you if you have parents, grandparents who went to the school. Another school supplement may only ask if you have parents who went to the school. They may even be very specific as to if they went to the UG school. Each school is different on how they view legacy. From their questions you will be able to tell if you could have legacy status because of parents, grandparents, or extended family. Most schools will only count parents and for UG.

I have been looking on the Princeton supplement and there seems to be no legacy spot, which means that Princeton (and I am sure other schools) only get legacy from the common app itself. This is very possible in your case, as you do have a place to state parental education.
