No safety schools!! I need help!! Thanks!!

Wait - do you mean you want us to suggest “No safety schools”? or that you currently have no safety school that you really like and you want to be sure you have one or two? (I suppose Rutgers honors is a safety school for you.)

(If you like the Ithaca area, I think Ithaca might be a great safety school for you.)

What do you mean volunteered for three weeks for the army? The US gov’t is not permitted to accept donated services. Brandeis would be a low reach/match.

The Israeli army.

Look at University of Rochester.

What are your interests for a major?

Maybe Syracuse Honors?

Another possibility: Lehigh Univ

Brandeis would be good. Lehigh is a good idea but also maybe Bucknell. Colgate? Trinity is a possibility. There are lots of liberal arts colleges in Pennsylvania not too far from Philly/New York but not in the city.

The ivies appear unrealistic. JHU a reach and NYU more of a match depending on rank.

UPenn Early Decision - reject
NYU (hate the city though…) - accept
Rutgers honors - accept
John Hopkins - reject
Brown - reject
Cornell - reject

This doesn’t make sense to me

Agree, apply to NYU only if you love the city. NYU is “in and of” the city.

sooo definately no shot in UPenn early decision? NYU is a match?

Considering Brandeis but its a bit far for me. Also lehigh but i havent heard great things…

You have a chance at Penn but it depends on your essays. I have no idea why you’ve heard bad things about Lehigh. I’ve only heard good.

What about Yashiva as a safety?

I most often agree with Erin’s dad, but a shot at Penn with CR and math in the 600s as an ORM from NYC? I don’t think so.

If you’re applying to Hopkins–make sure you get its name right: it’s Johns Hopkins. Leaving off the “s” will get your application noticed, but not favorably.

I agree with the others who have suggested Brandeis for you. It is excellent academically yet somewhat less challenging admissions-wise than some of the other schools on your list. And its really no further from NYC than Brown, Cornell or Hopkins. Tufts is another place you should investigate.

What do you want to study/major in?

Do you want a big school or smaller school? The Univ of Maryland/College Park has many Jews studying there…it could be a match/safety but many people who I know that have gone there (with good SAT’s and GPA) have been very happy there…they have an honors and scholars program…

Lehigh is a very fine college. They just have a reputation of drinking/partying, but academically it’s a top rated school. Also, you can choose to participate in partying or not, like at most schools.

NYU is definitely smack in the middle of the city but also is top rated academically…

I agree with Redroses – 1350 SATs are on the lowish end for Top 15ish schools, as would be a class rank outside the top 1-2%.

Putting all your testing scores (AP, SAT II, SAT) in the aggregate, you are about a top 4-6% tester, again a little outside the top 15 middle 50%.

Look for schools ranked about where NYU is… 25-50 in USNWR or 8-30 in the LAC list.

As a safety I suggest SUNY Bingamton. It seems Geneseo is outside your geographic preference.

Maybe Hamilton College as a match/reach LAC that might be close enough for you as well. geographically. Colgate has already been mentioned. Fordham is good but I think your “fairly religious Jew” status would make that unpalatable.

You did not specify gender… I would guess male, but if you are female, then Barnard is a slight reach.

Initially I thought UPenn would be way beyond the OPs stats but the CDS states the highest weighted factors to be considered are rigor, essays, recommendations, and character. Scores are only considered. I recognize that the stats put you in the range of what the school is looking for, but the OPs stats are right around the 25%ile for CR and Math and if the other factors are better can overcome that.
