Where should I apply?

@LilRussian The schools you are looking at, the ones you can get in anyway, would not be in the same class as Lehigh, Bucknell, Villanova, Fordham, Richmond or Wake Forest. Not even close.

It makes little sense to spend $60k a year on a UC while the same education and reputation is at Iowa for a third the cost.

As for recruiting, you will find that in business the private schools have a huge edge. Most are small to medium sized. Notre Dame and U Penn have less than 10,000 undergraduates.

Iowa seems to fulfill these criteria. What would cause you to choose a school over Iowa?

@ucbalumnus I want to experience something new, not go to college with all the kids I grew up with. Everyone says “oh you won’t have to see them you can make new friends!” But at Iowa they’re everywhere…you choose who you surround yourself with but I want to start over and get out of the Midwest. Tired of the weather.

Alabama allows apps for their scholarships for FOUR more days.

Tulane is in a dangerous city? Did it move? New Orleans is no more dangerous than many other cities in the US.

Actually the murder rate is very high in New Orleans, even higher than NY, Chicago and LA.

But its not something that should impact a student.

That’s why my parents don’t want me going there @TurnerT @ErinsDad

Tulane is in a very nice part of New Orleans. You’d never be near the areas that are dangerous.

Out of the Midwest, look into SUNY Geneseo (business school is AACSB accredited), Pitt (urban, compact campus) , NCSU, VTech, UMiami, Rollins, ASU Barrett, USC-Columbia’s Business school, UOregon, UWashington.
Too bad you won’t consider SDSU, it has an excellent reputation in CA.
UMN Carlson would be a reach but it’s worth trying.

I agree with MYOS1634 and Erin’s dad. Both my son and I attended Tulane as undergraduates. It is in a leafy section of the city called the Garden District, far away from any part that one might characterize as “dangerous.” iIn the last 10 years Tulane has become one of the premier schools in the country for community service, helped by great effort on the part of the school to give its isolated students exposure to parts of the city that really need the school’s help. In fact, it is a requirement for graduation that you do community service. If service to the community is not your bag (and honestly it does not have to be), then Tulane may not be the right environment for you. In any event, I would certainly look into the school and what it offers and not let any thoughts about the city dissuade you. Best of luck to you!

@MYOS1634 @“Erin’s Dad” @NJDad68 well do any of you think I have a chance at tulane?

Yes, you do have a good shot at Tulane ! Your standardized tests are in the 25% to 75% range (30-33) and While the GPAs a little bit on the low side, that might not matter given the strength of your curriculum and also the highly subjective nature of the GPA number in any event. Your language skills are right up Tulane’s alley! They have a very strong Latin American studies department, and they have a Russian major as well. Studying abroad during your junior year is an important part of the Tulane culture as well. Irrespective of what you major in, language skills are helpful no matter what you do in life. I would give it a shot. All the best!

Temple has a good business program. You could probably get the Dean’s scholarship ($14,000 OOS) and maybe qualify for honors program.

Another option in a city is Duquesne. You might get $15k merit there.

TCNJ is also well regarded for business.

I think if you can get over your thoughts about the crime issue (it really isn’t, in my mind) Tulane would be a good fit. It’s got the name and location you may be looking for.

Another option is Emory. Your stats put you in the conversation for the school. EDII deadline is 1 Jan so you have some time. It’s in a great city. If you live in the QC area, Delta has non-stop flights to Atlanta so you can visit family in IA easily. Emory has a good reputation too. It’s kind of expensive but I don’t recall your tuition budget.

Notre Dame and WUSTL business schools may be high reaches though.

30 is an excellent ACT score. Your dad is being a bit harsh. You can get into plenty of good schools with a 30.
