I want to major in computer science (I know it’s very competitive major)
I am an international student, so FAFSA and the cost of attendance stuff don’t matter.
I am trying to apply Wisconsin, Purdue, U of Washington, UIUC, UF, U of Maryland, Georgia Tech, UT Austin, USC, Rice, Stevens Inst., Rensselaer, and SUNY Binghamton.
Chances for these schools OR any recommendation on schools that I should apply?
I personally think I lack safety schools, so any advises are welcome.
If you are full pay international, add some state schools who are looking for extra tuition revenue: UCSD and UC Irvine come to mind. There are probably others as well. The OOS admit rate for UCSD for example is about 50%. Probably lower for CS majors.
If you can get your SATs above 1500 would make you an even stronger candidate.
@sgopal2: 2019 Admission Rates for International Applicants:
UCLA: 8.49%
UC Berkeley: 9.16%
UC San Diego: 29.7%
UC Santa Barbara: 34.6%
UC Irvine: 40.5%
UC Davis: 42.1%
Oh I forgot to mention this. I do not want to go to any UC schools or any NE schools…
Big thanks to you guys who replied, but I do not favor UC schools. Any other schools please?
RIT, WPI, or Case Western?
I saw many people recommending RIT, U of Rochester, WPI, and CaseWestern.
I heard that the Case Western CS program is not worth its cost.
How good is RIT and WPI for future employment and other factors?
All of these programs are costly and of similar quality generally speaking, but you never know what scholarships you’ll get, and Case gives more than others. Don’t eliminate good options on that alone, but do be realistic about your financial constraints and make sure to have affordable options you’re excited about. You have other full price private schools on your list that don’t give scholarships as is.
Most every school listed here will have good employment given the CS industry. The differences in the programs are more nuanced, but generally speaking RIT, WPI, and GT are known to be pretty practical, Rice is known for having very accessible professors, and there are many other minuta you can go into.
If you like good CS practical programs and cities as it seems like based on your list, Northeastern should probably be worth a look, though you are already pretty match/top heavy on your list.
I’d strongly second RIT and WPI as safeties pending affordability.
