It’s my senior year of high school, and application season is rapidly approaching. The issue is that I have no idea where to start! I’ll be attending a college fair this weekend, but I’d just like to hear some opinions and experiences first, based on my current circumstances.
High school has been quite a strange time for me, and that’s been reflected in my GPA.
Freshman year I did poorly, with three Ds each semester. I have retaken those courses in summer school, but since most of them were initially honors courses, they don’t replace the poor grade but instead add another grade onto my transcript. Sophomore year I maintained straight As both semesters, so that has been substantial in keeping my GPA up. But junior year is where I really - to put it bluntly - screwed up. First semester I had two Ds, and second semester I failed three classes. (I have made up two of those classes - one will actually be replaced with the new A grade). This semester I have been keeping my grades up, I currently have all As and one B (AP Spanish).
In short, my GPA by the time application deadlines roll around will be a 3.33W/3.17UW
My SAT score (I have only taken it once) was a 1220 (680 Eng - 540 Math)
I have taken two AP Tests, and scored a 5 on AP Eng Lang and a 3 on AP Art History
My ECs are… likely below average. I have just created a club, and I’m on the “Student Site Council” (responsible for suggesting changes to administrators and staff), and I don’t play any sports.
I am a California Resident, but I don’t meet the “A-G Requirements” to attend UCs or CSUs, so I’m primarily looking out of state. I’m applying to University of CO Boulder, and U of New Mexico… but I’m not sure how poor my chances of acceptance are due to my grades. Any recommendations? Success stories? I’m open to anything, but I’d like to mostly be looking into larger flagships. What are my chance of acceptance in terms of the ones I mentioned above?
