Where should I get started?

I want to head into investment banking as my overall goal. However, I do have some questions.

Is it good to head into business school right out of college? Or is it better to get some work experience?

What are the best undergrad schools for IB? Are there any?

What are good undergrad majors? Math? Econ?

What is the best an investment banker could expect to make?

Why do you want to make investment banking your overall goal?

All of those questions have been answered ad nauseum on this board. Please look around.

All of these questions have been answered in a number of different, but here is a really quick summary for you:

No…you would want to go to a top business school (if not top 10, then top 20) for good IB opportunities and those schools want you to have experience before attending, otherwise, you’re pretty useless to the class. Additionally, you won’t as much out of B school without some experience, so don’t rush it.

Target schools and semi-target schools - such as the usual suspects: H,Y,P,S,W,Col, Cornell, NYU, Berkley (west coast), to name a few.

Here is a good article on picking your major - in short, if you attend a strong school, your major doesn’t really matter - the most relevant majors would be finance, accounting, econ and math.

1st year analyst with a BB firm would probably get 10k sign on, 70k annual and ~40k bonus - could be higher or lower based on year, performance, etc.
