I'm sorry if opened up this thread in the wrong place but I'm pretty new the forum. I was accepted to University of Toronto, USC and Emory and I want to study business (undergrad). I am pretty undecided and want to decide and send my deposit in the next few days. My parents can afford all three schools. I think I would prefer to live in Toronto or LA more than in Atlanta. I know that USC and Emory both have good business programs in USA and Toronto is one of the best schools in Canada but I don't know how they compare. I could use some help here, thanks...

Wow–that’s quite a lot of latitude. How did you chose those 3 schools to begin with for your applications?

You may wish to write what you like best & least about each of the schools to help you solidify in your mind the best & worst things about each school. Atlanta is a very interesting place.

There are lots of international students at USC and they do serve international food & have a food court within a short walk of the school that has international food as well. Sorry, I don’t know much about the other Us. You may want to post on the Parents forum or the college forums for more info about each.

Both my kids attend USC & are happy there. For them weather played a significant role in their choice, because they are used to sunny, warm HI and have not spent much time in cold places.

Where do you expect to live after you finish your schooling? If you are an international student planning to return to your home, which school has more stature in your home country? You may wish to ask your folks what their thoughts are on this as well. In HI & the West Coast, USC is quite well-known & does a lot of networking among its alumni. I’m not sure to what extent this occurs in Istanbul.

It’s my understanding that it’s quite difficult non-residents to get permission to remain in the US after completing your undergrad studies at this point. You may wish to check on this, if it is something that matters to you and may affect your choices.

I don’t know if I will return to Istanbul or not but I think I’ll stay in the US or Canada if I find a good job. I know that USC has a good school spirit, strong alumni network and a good program. However, I don’t know too much about Emory (only that it’s academically strong as well) and U of T’s Scarborough campus. U of T’s size is a concern form me as well.

No, you need to check the laws that might NOT allow you to remain in the US and/or Canada. I understand it’s much harder for folks to remain and get a job, especially these days. I have no personal knowledge but would advise you to learn more before committing to the schools as it could affect your options.

^^^^^

Correct. Getting a work visa to permit you to stay and work in the U.S. is quite unlikely.

If it is just education, I would strongly suggest USC. If you want to remain in North America, I would strongly suggest you look at Canada’s work visa requirements and see if that isn’t a better option.

Academically speaking USC is not in the same class as Emory or Toronto. Toronto is not just one of the best schools in Canada but in the World and would be a top ranking school if it was in the U.S.

If you plan on trying to stay in the US or Canada, then heed CT Yankee’s advice, but I would opt for Toronto as it combines a truly international city with a stellar education that is world renowned.

By the way, I was admitted to the Scarborough campus of U of T

Scarborough is a smaller knit community compared to downtown, if you are living on campus and do frosh week, you will have plenty of friends before classes even begin. downtown however, is a 30 minute bus ride AND a 30 minute subway ride away from Scarborough. Hopefully your roomies have a car.
