Where Should I Look / Chance Me!

Hey CC Forums! I am at the beginning of my college process and don't know about too many schools beyond the ones that are trying to recruit me or I am a legacy at. I really could use some help in figuring out where to look into based on my stats and extracurriculars. If you could offer me a chance on the schools I am interested in or provide me a school you think I should look into, I would really appreciate it!

** Hooks **
- Legacy @ UVa (mother, brother)
- Nationally Ranked Rower (not sure how much of a hook this is, but I figure it sets me apart)

Schools I'm Interested In
- UT Austin
- BC
- UCLA
- UVa

As you can see, I know almost nothing about private schools. A few are actively recruiting me, but beyond that I don't know much else.

STATS
- UWGPA: 3.7
- UC GPA: 3.83
- WGPA: 4.4
- Class Rank: Top 10%
- SAT I: 2130 (800 CR / 700 Writing / 630 Math)
- SAT II: 800 World History, 800 English
- AP Exams: 5 WHAP, 5 APUSH, 5 AP English
- Courseload: Heavy

EXTRACURRICULARS
- Varsity Rowing (2010 - Present)
- Mock Trial (2010 - Present) (Captain)
- SafeRides (2012 - Present) (President)
- National Honors Society (2012 - Present) (My school starts NHS your junior year)
- Mission Trips (2009 - Present)

- Debate Team (2011 - Present)

I think I stand to improve on my math and writing scores. I did very poorly on the multiple choice this time in writing but received a 12 on my essay, where I usually get a near perfect score on the multiple choice. With math, I have never been tutored in it and did not have a chance to really study for it, so I think I can definitely bring it up.

I know my GPA is weak and possibly a disqualifier at many schools; I should have applied myself more freshman year. My GPA sophomore and Junior year show a significant trend upwards, but my freshman year GPA brings me down.

Like I said, I really could use some guidance about where I should look into for college. I'm ideally looking for a school that is both strong academically and fun socially (not to be cliche). The balance between those two is very important to me. I'd really appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you in advance.

UCLA: High match (either UCLA recruits you into its rowing team or you pay full-freight)
UVA: Match
BC: Match/High match (depends on the gender)
UT-Austin: High match

What is your home state?

Thanks for the chance! And Arizona. I’m not interested in any of the state schools here, unfortunately.

I was just wondering if you were from any states of these schools that you may get better chance. So you don’t have in-state advantage for them.

Should have good chances at all listed schools.

I think your application looks awesome. Congrats. I bet you’ll have great chances.

Many state schools do look for qualified OOS applicants. I think you have a good chance. UT may be a little more difficult than UCLA due to the in-state acceptance mandated rule.

Thank you so much for the chances thus far. I’m glad to hear I seem to be a match for UVa; it is my dream school. I know that at that caliber of school it can go any way, but it’s nice to hear. Where else should I look into? And how much would improving my SAT to a 2200+ (which I feel I can do with some work over the summer) improve my chances?

Only (and final) bump.

The only reason why you could be a match at UVA is legacy…

I didn’t suggest otherwise. Though rowing recruitment doesn’t hurt either.
