Where should I start looking?

I'm so disoriented after my first semester, I don't even know what type of school I want to attend anymore. I'm at a very small private school, but I no longer am looking at only private or small schools. I think I may need to stay one more year (I'm a freshman) so that I can transfer to a better school, but if I decide to try to transfer for next fall, can you give me some suggestions where I might look? I'm no longer picky with location.

High school: just under a 3.6 UW. Prep school.
SAT: 1390/1600 and 2190/2400
Debate for three years, varsity lax manager for three years, choir for four years, orphan care ministry area coordinator for a large church, equestrian polo player, competitive horseback riding, volunteering to teach riding to disabled children, missions trip

College: I should finish first semester with a 3.61. I'm taking 18 credits and came in with six from AP. I'm going to have completed the requirement for Spanish and maths after this semester (started third semester for both of them). I'm in the honors college and have taken a seminar on Greek and Hebrew thought, public speaking substitute and an honours freshman seminar. I'm in intro to biology, lifetime fitness (fitness requirement) and of course a southern special, scuba diving.
Next semester I am enrolled in a further 18 credits: Second-level scuba, bio lab, earth science, earth science lab, an honours history substitute, two theology classes (theology minor), and a class on writing about literature.
English major.
Involved in the leadership training team and will have completed, at minimum, 45 hours of community service by May. Manager of the D2 lacrosse team and playing equestrian polo second semester. Leader at the high school youth group.

So, any schools to throw out there?

You can actually probably transfer now if you want…most schools only require only 24 credits (with 18 + 6, you’re good). And some schools don’t have any minimum.

you are really going to have to be more specific than that

what school are you at now? you will have to be looking at schools of similar or (less likely) less rigor or prestige than the one you are currently at

there are thousands of schools out there, you are going to have to give us something more to work with…is there a location you want to be in? a major that you would like your school to have? large school/small school? etc etc

I’m at a virtually unheard of religious school. I am at a school way, way lower than where I should be based on my stats, because I came here for other reasons. That’s why I posted my stats, and not my school (which I would rather not post). Almost no school I apply to would have heard anything about my school, and it’s certainly not a “good” school. If you will, think of it as community college. It’s not, it’s four year and out-of-state, but since I’d rather not name it I might as well give a lower reference point.

I meant the quotes in this post from the OP. No longer looking at only small schools means I am still looking at small schools but also large schools. I would consider a school in any state. And I’m majoring in English, so the major they would need would be English.

If I were narrowing it down, I would say no mega-schools (less than 15,000). And, um, not in Idaho, Washington state or Oregon. Seriously though, I’m just wondering what pops into people’s minds with those stats and completely undecided about whether size or location would rule anything out.

my bad, i kind of sort of have ADD

it is still hard to give you good ideas without having more to go off of…

maybe you should sit down with your parents or guidance counselor and really work out what it is you are looking for in a school…or perhaps this is a good starting point; why do you want to transfer out of your current school? if you are being vague in your criteria of potential transfer schools, is it that you just want to go to a “better”/more prestigious school?

it will be very hard to suggest schools for you if you are not sure of what you are looking for yourself

nothing really “popped into my head” but perhaps look at SUNY binghamton apparently they have a good english department…perhaps fordham in the bronx, muhlenberg…most small lac’s have solid english departments…

OP, I’m guessing my D and I have at least HEARD of your school. I am posting so I can find this later, and see how things turn out. I hope for the best. My D was one of the only one of her friends who did not choose a more religious school , and she has made noises about transferring as well. As a parent, I’m glad she chose something with more racial and religious diversity, and I’ll admit it, enough prestige to match the price tag. Not sure if there is an ideal fit for $50k EFC-high-achieving-URM’s-from-small-christian-schools-not-too far-from-California. I’d love to hear what doesn’t " fit" for you, but understand that you’d rather not share.

To throw a school out there: chances at Clemson for Fall 2009?

Wow, sorry- I thought I would be able to edit and add more schools if I found any. How abut the College of Charleston or Wake Forest?

I would be interested in chancing for both Fall 2009 and Fall 2010 (based on if my next three semesters were to be similar to this one).
