Its not the university that makes the difference. Its your performance in it ;)

I would do away with Babson and Bentley. I am not a fan of those business oriented only schools. Other three are solid options and it comes down to what you want to major.

business/economics/finance on the 4 universities or industrial engineering in purdue

How do you know you will still want to transfer after a year or two? Why not pick the best fit for you right now?

its all about my future and i guess going to an ivy league or mit could get me a higher salary or at other top schools

first of all it doesnt matter which of those schools you choose. second what makes you think youll be able to transfer into mit, harvard or the like? as far as i know some schools (harvard) dont allow transfer students , at least this year. anyways the percentage of transfers admitted to these schools are extremely low you need a solid 4.0 for at least two semesters worth of classes. By the way I’m not sure why youre so intent on transferring without giving these schools a chance. Boston University is highly regarded and known throughout the world for example and you should be proud of going there if you do. If it were me, Id choose Boston U, and STAY THERE. unless you really dont like it. Transferring isnt fun let me tell you, long process.

^ BU is SO easy to get into and is not a solid school. Its average.

Its not hard to get into - thats true. But I wouldn’t call the school average, especially in engineering. Business programs are also ranked relatively well. Its no Ivy, but it is certainly above average.

I have a question to jnd. From what I can see - its Boston for the first four schools, than completely a distance to the west - Purdue… There is a huge shift in environment… Academics at Purdue are AWESOME, especially in engineering. But how much have you researched each college?

And engineering is very different from business. Why are you choosing engineering if most of your career goals lay in business related careers?

If you are in between I would support BU. As I said its pretty decent in engineering and business. But if you are strongly business that I think Babson or Bentley might be a better choice.

Don’t think this is a temporary decision. When you are making this decision think what would happen if your transfers didn’t work out! Plan to stay there for FOUR years and not ONLY TWO. Getting a transfer to a better school is just a cherry on the top, but don’t assume you are going to get it even with hard work and good ECs.

math4breakfast…do you realize that if everyone thought like you, unless you went to an ivy or a school rated top 30, people would be considered second rate? you realize it barely matters what college someone goes to, especially for certain professions or majors such as history, sociology. im serious. I talked to someone from Upenn who likes it but went because he thought itd be the more prestigious thing to do. he says its just ok, its not a lot of fun and that it really doesnt matter what school you go to, in order to get the internship he got, he got it from a friends uncle, not from upenn. its all about the person NOT the school. and in fact BU is a great school. Once you get a job it doesnt matter if you went to cornell or auburn at that point (a good school too btw). so basically you should choose a school you feel you will enjoy being in.

industrial engineering and business administration are somewhat similar and purdue is ranked 3 on the country in industrial engineering after georgia tech and university of michigan ann arbor and its really easy to enter, i just came from boston and went to babson bentley bu and northeastern i think i liked northeastern the most my parents liked bu the most and everyone tells me that BU is of a higher rank in teaching quality and the people who actually go there, but i really liked northeastern. Among those for at boston babson is the best in business and a good family friend is in the board at babson so he can also help me with the admission

Northeastern and BU are comparativley the same, although i would give a slight edge to Northeastern for Business. I would easily get rid of Babson and Bentley…atleast if you want to switch from engineering to business or vice versa you will have the option to do so without the hassle of transfering. Northeastern and BU will give you a good quality of education and are held to the same regard in Boston…Northeastern is definitely underrated along with my current school WPI! Purdue is out in the boonies and pretty isolated you should probably visit.

why get rid of bentley babson?

THese schools are ranked in business these way

Babson

Northeastern

Bentley

Purdue

and if i start in business/economics/finance i will not change to industrial engineering

Well I think you belong to Northeastern! Seems to me you liked it the most. Thats all that matters - your opinion. Rankings are OVERRATED. Do you even know what scale they are being graded on? Be your own judge of “rankings”.

My criteria has always been: Financial Aid, Environment, Diversity, Proximity to Home, and Academics… I chose the school with the best combination. I made up my own rankings and disregarded those of newsweek and such. It worked out for me and I am happy with my decision.

Take off Purdue. Its a great school, but it seems to me that you only know it because its easy to get into and that it has high academic prestige in engineering (unless you plan on visiting it and judging for yourself).

You MAY want to post a new thread in the chances or college admissions forum. You haven’t started applying yet and there is very little for us to help you here. You don’t know if you are as guaranteed to get into each school, because there are quite a few curve balls that are thrown when receiving admissions decisions. They can also help you add schools to your list since it seems you are still searching.

thanks alot for your help im pretty sure ill end up in northeastern
