I was wondering if there are any close buy Walmarts/Targets or any good store to buy room supplies and groceries?

There are a ton of options for groceries. There’s an overpriced 24 hour grocery store on campus called Fresh Grocer, which is mainly good if you need one or two things or it’s late at night. For bigger trips, there’s an Aldi about 6 blocks west of campus and a Trader Joe’s 6 blocks east of campus, both of which are very easy to get to by subway. Most of my friends tend to shop mainly at those two stores.

The nearest Walmart is downtown, but you’d need to take a cab to get there, because it’s way out of the way of public transit. There’s a Kmart in a mall in Center City (~3 miles away) which is easily accessible by subway or cab, and probably your best bet, although if you’re sketched out by the city you might want to just suck up the cost and cab it to Walmart. Also an Ikea right near Walmart if you need anything like that.

Target anywhere near? I try to avoid Walmart if at all possible.

The Target is near the Ikea/Walmart

Great, thanks for the tip. I’ll probably head down to Walmart before my parents leave.

There’s also a target at city line, which is accessible on the 40 bus. (Still not easy, though). PhillyCarShare or Zipcar is great for these kinds of things - if you can rope 3 or 4 people into going, split the cost of the car, plus it can be fun.

The city line Target is better than the South Philly Target. (And likewise, pretty much any other walmart is better than the s. philly one). For most purposes though, the kmart in center city works well.
