Where to eat visiting Penn on a tight schedule?

Will be doing a super short trip to Penn campus, arrive 9:30, leave at 3:00, will take part in a campus tour and then will be on our own. Am very familiar with the campus and would like to get in some Philly food fare closeby, (plan is to get Koch's for take out and Tastikakes for the train trip back) but where to go for a quick cheese steak on Penn campus? Abner's? Any lunch truck in particular to recommend?

Abner’s is not really that great but I guess if you want steak you should go there. I would go for the chicken sandwich at Hemo’s by the Quad. My mouth waters just thinking about it. =]

Okay, so looks like Hemo’s does a cheesesteak, as well as the chicken sandwich. Is that truck parked right outside the Quad? Or should I go to the one on Spruce? Also for the chicken sandwich, extra sauce plus hot sauce?

I love Abner’s but Hemo’s is a good option too, also closer.

They don’t do steaks, but Greek Lady does a mean gyro. I used to love it when I lived on campus - great stuff.

Eat at the food trucks! Cheap and delicious! I liked the house of pita.

Eating at Houston Hall might give you a better flavor for the school (pun intended).

penn tastes like chicken?

^^ At times. My point is that I wouldn’t waste one of my 5.5 hours on campus eating at a restaurant nobody cares about. Maybe the basement of Houston Hall will give them a better feel for what it is like to be at Penn.

Greek Lady DOES do steaks (and they are great), but that’s not what they are known for. Great place for lunch on 40th between Walnut and Locust.

@212dad, I can see your point, but I do think that the food trucks/ West Philly eateries are a big part of the Penn campus culture.
