Where to find (custom) textbooks & a few other q's

After being told by my parents that I'm going to have to pay for my textbooks, I started looking online to find some deals.

A lot of the books that I "need" (per the book store) are either custom, seemingly easily replaceable, or have some other strange complication. So, like I said, since it's coming out of my pocket, I'm looking to find the best deals.

To start, let me just give you a list of the books I need.

Chemistry 142 -

(Required)General Chemistry 142 (7E 12) (Custom) - Found a 2009 edition on Amazon for $22 today. I also have "Chemistry" 8E - (Amazon.com: Chemistry (9780547125329): Steven S. Zumdahl, Susan A. Zumdahl: Books)

Will I be able to get by?

(Required)General Chemistry 142 Lab Manual 2012 2013 (Required)- I'm assuming this is very "custom" and necessary. Also, it's only $12.

(Required)General Chemistry Lab Notebook - Is this anything more than a notebook? Sure it's only $14, but.....

English 121 -

(Required)2 P/S Brief Ed, Acts Of Inquiry W/ Getting The Picture - Bawarshi

What does the 2 P/S stand for? This one is only $24, and I can't find it anywhere online.

(Unknown) <--- What does that mean? Everyday Writer (2009 Mla Updates & 2010 Apa Updates) (4 E 10) - Appears to be a pretty common book (can't find it for free online -.-) also decently expensive ($46 used). Plus, it seems really hard to find the copy with the added 2010 Apa updates. Most are the 4 E 09 edition?

(Unkown) <--- Again, ??? Four Year Access Card Writers Help - $35.55, what on earth am I paying for?

Calculus 125 -

(Required) 2 P/S V.1 Calculus Single Variable (Custom) (7E 12) W/ Webassign - This is $108. Can I buy it used? Or does the fact that it's (Custom) (7E 12) W/ Webassign make it better to just buy it new? Could I use another book that isn't custom instead? For example, another calculus book made by Stewart?

(Optional) <--- Like the "optional" football practices that everyone knew to attend? Or truly optional? Sg T/A V.1 Calculus Single Variable (Custom) (7E 12). Basically the same questions as the above book. Also, what does Sg T/A mean?

(Optional) <--- ??? Ssm T/A Single Variable Calculus Early Transcendentals - Found this one online for free. Mathematics - Single Variable Calculus: Early Transcendentals ,7thEdition -9780538498678 - James Stewart - Cengage Learning

Same one right?

Anyway, I know this is a lonnnnnng post asking a lot of questions, but, thankfully, the insight you give me will assit me all four years of college (and is definitely worth while ;) ) Thanks!

Any help is appreciated!

I dont have much reputation in this community, But let me tell you my experiences with text books at UWB.

I went to my first math class (calc 1) and was told that I needed to buy a 250$+ math book.
I went home and decided to just buy the online code for 79$ after some coupon my prof posted on her website.
The online code gave me access to the homework (required), and an E version of the book.
The heather heagues version of the calc 1,2,and 3 classes is GARBAGE!
I can not stress enough how disappointed I am with this book and would suggest just buying the online code and watching khan academy.

So for math, the code works for 1 full year (365 days) OR if you register for 3 calculus classes. I dont know about doing classes out of order / repeating in the summer, but i would imagine you would be screwed and have to buy another access code. If you’re planning on failing a class, drop out of UW and save your money.

80 bucks is not bad for a calc book that lasts 3 quarters, 27$ a quarter.

Chemistry we were “required” to buy both the text book and “pogil” book.
I bought the cheapest version of the text book I could find for 25$ and used my friends pogil book.
Just talk to your professor the first day of class and find out how stuff in class is really going to be.

for english I had a crazy professor that has probably no basis in reality.
I bought the 35$ book each quarter and hope I will never have an essay to write again.
She was completely off her rocker. I earned a 104% in her class and she felt I deserved a 3.9.

sorry if my reply is not as direct, but I found your post very hard to read.
As for the abbreviations and such, I am as lost as you are. I would suggest looking for a legend in your myUW, theres one in there somewhere, and just talking to your professor / TA.
