Where to look for events and fundraisers for Key Club?

<p>I live in a fairly rural area and I'm the president of my school's Key Club. I've found some events (volunteer opportunites) about 20-30 min away from where I live but I'm trying to find ones closer.. However, I went on Volunteer match and they didn't come up with any closer ones. Where do I start looking? If a find a place where (ex. hospital) where they might need volunteers (short period or 1-time), who should I talk to and what should I ask them? You can very much tell that I'm new to all of this stuff, and I haven't been trained properly by former officers. I'm just have a hard time finding volunteer opportunites close to where I live. How do you come up with fundraisers that help other people with like cancer or something? Thanks.</p>

<p>ask within the school... Ask if teachers, administration members, or even other clubs need help with anything.</p>

<p>You could bake cookies and give them to homeless people. Or volunteer at a library or something....</p>

<p>Ok, so do I just go ask the homeless shelter if they need help? Any other ideas? How do you know if there is a homeless (or any other place where you can volunteer) shelter near you?</p>

<p>Okay, I found one but I think I got rejected haha. Anyways, I started off by saying, "Hey, I came across your site and it seems like a very good volunteering opportunity so I'm hoping that you guys have volunteering positions open." and the staff replied by saying, "no, I don't think so." but she gave me another number to call.... Did I say something wrong? And it really seemed like a great opportunity too..</p>

<p>Have you checked with United Way? They have a lot of great volunteering resources. You may also find groups listed in the phone book under "Human Services" or something similar.</p>
