Mantori…I’m not trying to scare anyone away from the Honors College. It is certainly a special place at Ole Miss.

I only try to give realistic feedback so students can plan accordingly. As you know, the University does not have a strong reputation as an academically challenging place to be. The Honors College is challenging…a very unique opportunity. Simply trying to help students understand that the Honors College is the real deal. So much more than just “a name”.

Your son is strong…he can make this opportunity anything he sets his mind to. Afterall…he survived the first summer of the Chinese Flagship!

Thanks SK, that is the issue I wouldn’t want my S to attend unless he was in the HC and could stay in the HC. He can write essays, he just can’t seem to proof and complete a final draft. We shall see.

Idinct…I can relate. Have a HS son that is a very good writer…but finished after the first draft…he’s killing me!

FWIW: Ole Miss has a good writing lab. It is there for the pleasure of the entire student body. They help the students in all phases of the process…develpment, proofing, editing and critique.

Again, I do not want to deter anyone from Ole Miss or the Honors College. My daughters absolutely love it and feel they are receiving an excellent education. It is possible that science and engineering majors may write less. Though I know it is common for Honor Physics, Bio and even certain math classes to write papers.
