Where to stay?

Getting near crunch (decision) time.

Making our first trip, want to be as close to campus as possible (walking?), any recommendations? Also any fine food recommendations?

For AARO, we are staying at the Hilton Dallas/Park Cities. Not sure if it is walking distance.
As far as food goes, Jr was just there on a visit and is now completely obsessed with Burger House! He said it is a must…and that you need to get the fries “extra crispy”.

He also said that there is a bakery by the book store that you need to go to…just can’t remember the name.

We have several friends visiting the campus this week. I will let you know if there are any other “MUST EAT HERE” type places ;)

Hotel Lumen is just across Hillcrest and a popular destination for families to stay, as well as the new Holiday Inn just across 75. All great options!

As far as good eating in Dallas - you cannot go wrong. It all depends on what you feel like eating. There’s great Italian, Tex Mex, American, Barbeque, Pizza, Chinese and hundreds of other options.

I would recommend Snuffer’s for burgers and cheese fries, Campisi’s for All-the-Way Pizza and salads, Half Shells for fish tacos, and Mariano’s for tex mex and margaritas (for the parents!)

Hi Westcoast11,

I would say that the hotels that are in walking distance are the Lumen on Hillcrest and Holiday Inn (also have a shuttle that’ll take you across). The Palomar is on the edge of school but across the highway. The Doubletree is close and they have a bus that’ll drive you to campus on demand if you tip the driver.

Restaurants are everyone’s favorite topic down here! I think that if you want Italian you need to go to Patrizio in Highland Park Village, Mexican I suggest either Mi Cocina or La Duni (on McKinney), for upscale American I suggest Stampede 66 or Fearings. You need to get in a visit to JD’s Chippery on the east side of campus for cookies, or alternatively a cookie sandwich at Pokey-O’s. Message me for more recs if you’re looking for anything else
