This is the dumbest thread I have seen on College Comfidential.

@straightG: You cite no sources, provide no reasoning behind your rather strong comments, and have all of 7 posts on this forum. Unless you can convincingly show me otherwise, I will assume that you are a ■■■■■. Have a nice day, as I’m done here.

StraightG, Germany’s top universities, as well as France’s and Switzerland, are among the World’s best.

McGill is the dumping ground for dumber, unathletic kids who couldn’t into into the states.

straightG:

Sorry you were rejected by McGill. I hope you have a good year at community college.

Unfortunately, Naviance at my son’s school (acceptances) are dated info as the four kids that applied last year were all denied and my son doesn’t think anyone is getting in this year as well.

Before that, the magic number appears to be 3.65+ G.P.A. and 2250+ SAT/32+ ACT to be accepted. Naturally, it also depends on the program. Some of their programs are more selective than others.

Off topic question…

I got into McGill, Emory, and Vandy.

I paid deposits for McGill and Emory.
And I am still deciding between these two schools.

It is for ChemE (but I might switch to Mech Eng).

I know McGill is generally a science, school.
Is it good for engineering as well?

I know Emory is not famous for engineering.
They don’t even have a engineering program by themselves (its joint with GTech).
I know Gtech is good for engineering.

So not considering cost. Which school is easier to get high GPA if I work just as hard and take the exact same courses (just as ex).

I plan on going into MBA after I get my beng degree.
I plan on doing internships.
I plan on working 2 years before I apply for MBA.
I plan on applying to top 20 MBA programs.

Which school sounds more of a fit for me?

Right now, I am completely stuck in the middle and both schools seem “right”.
Yet, I know Emory’s rep isn’t so great outside the states.
Like people in Asia/Canadian, if you ask 100 people, only like 5% will know what Emory is.
McGill rep is USA isn’t so great either, but at least its better interanationally.

Long rant, thanks for the replies though

McGill wouldn’t rank on US news because US news is focus-oriented towards US secondary education as opposed to Canadian institutions, which is quite different. As for World rankings, I believe THES fairly ranks McGill at #18 in the world. People could argue that it is between the mid teens - mid twenties and I believe this is an accurate portrayal of everything McGill has to offer

Hey XferStudent,

As for ChemEng (and MechEng for that matter), McGill has tremendous prestige in both fields. My cousin is in MechEng at Vanderbilt and it is also a fantastic school for engineering. My buddy is in MechEng at McGill and I should forewarn you that it is arguably the most difficult faculty in all of McGill. That being said, if you dedicate yourself and apply enough time to review, you should be okay. But please note that at McGill their is no grading curve (I have been told that some class averages can fall to below a C). As for Vanderbilt, I couldn’t tell you, but congratulations on getting into two fantastic schools!

Hi StraightG,
