Where you've lived prompt

Did you guys go with a more literal interpretation of this prompt? I think that’s what this prompts looks to learn. Anyone go with a little more creative essay?

Last year, I talked about living on a border. It was cheesy, but pretty okay.

I didn’t get in, but it was for other reasons I think.

At an information session with a Brown admissions officer, he addressed this question by saying that the school was really looking for a literal interpretation of the question. They did not want someone answering “I live in the world of books” or something crazy. They want a sense of geographical or physical space where you have lived.

@spayurpets thanks so much!

I think Brown is not necessarily ‘looking’ for a particular type of response – literal or literary. If they just wanted, specifically, to know where you’ve lived, the question would be: ‘list each address where you have lived.’ It’s an opportunity for you to decide. I doubt they penalize people for being literal – literal people have their place in this world, and at Brown. On the other hand, there is a place for people who are more whimiscal, rhetorical, whatever. It is also an opportunity to show that you are overdoing it, so take heed.
