After filling out my financial aid stuff online, it said my EFC was zero. So ever since then I've been anxiously awaiting something in the mail from my college. My school was supposed to send out the results by April 7th and I've seen nada.

It's only April 8th...do colleges normally send these out a couple days late..or am I just worrying too much?
And one more thing...If my EFC is zero, then should I expect for all of my first year to be paid for, or is that just some estimate that can be bumped a couple thou?

These questions probably sound especially ignorant, and that probably due to the fact that I know next to nothing about the Finaid process.

Even with an EFC of zero, as many of these posts show, you might not get aid to cover the COA or some part of it might be loans. It will depend upon the school.

It depends on the school. If they are a school that promises to meet full need with no loans then it may be paid for. Those schools are the exception such as IVYs. Some schools promise to meet full need but may include a lot of loans. Most schools cannot meet full need in which case your aid may consist of grants, work study, loans and possibly a gap (unmet need).

Normally, its hard to get aid to cover COA even with 0 EFC. Hey, you better call your school. You need those aid letter soon to make comparisons between schools by the 1st and then begging CC people for advice :) My head is splitting right now with the comparisons.
Good luck.

It's only April 8. If your college sends finaid by regular mail, give it a day or so more. OR you can call the college finaid office and ask. Also, can you check your finaid status online for this school? Some places you can...and others you can't.

If they say April 7, and yours was put in the mail yesterday, you may not get it for a few days.

Thanks for your advice everyone. I' will be attending a large(20,000+) Public Uni, and it's not very selective. Would that increase or decrease the amount of grant money I receive. No comparison will be need because I have already enrolled there.
