Whether I should transfer...

I'm an international student and freshman in a four-year college. - Business major
I want to get into just top school with enough asian population. I'm in .05% asian population, which I can barely see asian around me. I'm pretty isolated and I don't like the feeling of alienation and racism.

I just want to transfer and have a better college life.
- racist approaches
- far from town - I don't have a car
These are things I'm feeling.

My College GPA in the first semester is about 3.6
But I don't think I can even get into top 30...right now and some colleges requires at least 60 credits or some sort of junior level transfer.
And also my high school GPA is very low 3.2 and 1700s SAT...
-> from these aspects everyone suggests me to transfer after two years because usually college won't consider high school grades and SAT scores as junior transfer.

But I just cannot stand for staying here for 2 years. I literally not talking with anyone and just staying in my dorm doing my hw.

So... I'm thinking whether I should try to transfer twice... a lot of people against it because it's hard doing application again and transferable Credits and all sorts of things....and also some people say transfer twice might affect my career when I try to get a job.

But does anyone recommend it? or anyone who had experienced the same situation as mine?
anu suggestions?

Solution 1:
Stay in this school for two years...just do my hw and concern about GPA.. and transfer as junior level.

Solution 2:

Try to transfer to college like Fordham, BU, and Northeastern, then after a year, transfer again to a better college(NYU, USC... that kinda). - I do know it's hard. I'll do whatever I have to do to maintain my GPA.

Btw I do not agree with people who says students should consider about whether they suit in the situation. I do agree some parts but also college level and ranking is also very important for me. I know it was slacking off in high school and I really feel bad for my parents and I feel shame to myself. - so no matter what my final college career I want to be in a good school.

16 credits - Fall 2012
16 credits - Spring 2013
12 credits - Summer 2013

I also want positive/negative aspects of transferring and transferring twice.
and any people who had the same experience.

Thanks,

Open you door, walk out of your room, and start talking to people. Join a club or team or committee. Stop isolating yourself. It will not be easy, but you need to do this.

Moving to a different country is hard. I know. I’ve done it. In that new environment it is very easy to misinterpret the behavior of other people. Maybe they are racist. But maybe you are just confuse because of the language and cultural differences. Until you truly start to understand the culture, you won’t know. Transferring schools won’t help. Opening your door will.

Make an appointment with the international student office, and speak with the people there about ways to ease your adjustment. My favorite book is “The Art of Crossing Cultures” by Craig Storti. See if there is a copy at your library.

Some students do transfer multiple times, but that is expensive and emotionally trying. There also is no guarantee that you will be able to move on to the third places. Anywhere you apply to now should be good enough to graduate from.

^Very good advice.

I both agree and disagree with happymomof1. I agree that you should really make an effort to adjust to this new culture. But I disagree in that if there really isn’t any community for you to feel comfortable with and that is very important to you then there is nothing wrong with considering transferring. I think people who don’t come from different cultures and races don’t understand how important having a community is to people who do. My only advice to you is before making the decision to transfer really consider the consequences and be prepared in the event that things don’t go the way you hope.

I am pretty out going. I’ve been in US since 14… and I was fine in my high school.
Probably those Americans were more familiar with Asians cuz it was a boarding school.
But here, even I try to be with them… i have feeling that they are looking down on me.
when I play ball, actually I’m one of the top player in my college, they just look down on me cuz of my first impression… race… yea stereotypically asian cannot play ball but not me. and they some times give me girls ball and all that kinda prejudice …

People say “try to be outgoing” but it’s impossible with their attitude toward me.
even I try, I just don’t fit here. - I do know that U.S is pretty prejudice country in some part. - So transferring would not change. I need to. But the problem is once or twice.
Need to be in a good school with enough asian populated school.

 • I did consider a lot of things but this is the only way to solve.
