Whether it matters to you or not.....UC Admit Rate

So does anyone know what the admissions rate was this year? Please refrain from the " if you have to ask a question like that you shouldn't go to Chicago " answers. Thanks!

not really.

any way we could figure it out? Do we have any numbers at all??

All we have are the EA applicant numbers.

Nothing solid on acceptances/rejections, though if I had to make an guess, I'd say Chicago's admit rate will be around 38% this year. Why? Well, let's begin with the fact that last year's admit rate was 40%. EA apps were up 2% this year, and we can assume that most of those were from students who will be of a higher yield.

Apps at other top schools are at record levels this year, and it's safe to say that Chicago probably will not keep pace. However, with Chicago's competitors receiving more apps for the same number of places, Chicago's yield will be driven up and thus the acceptance rate will go down (slightly). Just my (un)educated guess.

But we should find out for sure by the summer anyways; past mid-May, they should have all the numbers finalized.

i read somewhere that they admitted the same number of people from a pool of 400 apps more than last year.

From the Maroon: "Roughly 9,100 students applied for admission to the Class of 2009 and just over 3,600 were admitted. “That is about 400 more applications than last year, and about the same number of admits,” said Ted O’Neill, dean of admissions, noting that the acceptance rate decreased relative to last year."

Thanks for the link, newmassdad. 9100 applications translates into a lot of mustard essays!

I am looking forward to seeing Chicago when we drop DS off in Septemer. My H did the visit with him last fall.
