Which 2: Internship, job, class?

I'm a first-year and this summer I want to do 2 of 3: an internship, a job, and/or take summer classes.

Why take class? I am transferring, so I am behind in credits. Many transferred in as electives and on top of that I would like to take hard Gen Eds at my local CC [math, bio - worst subjects]. I don't like feeling too behind.

Why work? I need money for gas, to save up for next school year's expenses such as food, travel, etc. If I don't work this summer and do class/internship I'll just be sucking money away from my bank acc :(

Why intern? Well, it's a good opportunity to. I also seem to have landed a summer internship with a high-end clothing company that sounds like an awesome time. However, this internship is across town so it means I spend a lot in gas which is also why I wanna work.

Which 2 are more important? I really cant decide and need some guidence.

I can't do all 3 because it'll really suck up my time and it's summer after all, I do want /some/ rest.

If math and bio are your worst subjects, then I would advise against taking them over the summer- the pace is accelerated and you won’t have as much time to learn the subject material.

I’d go for internship and job.

The jobs sounds like a necessity. Whether the internship or classes are more valuable will depend on the quality of the internship (will you just be organizing papers and getting coffee, or will it be a more hands-on experience?). Otherwise, I’d say go for the classes. It’s less exciting, sure, but it sounds like you need to take them ASAP. Summer, without the distractions of other demanding classes, might be the perfect time.

Summer is a great time to take more difficult courses because if you’re only taking one or two, you can focus more attention on them and are more likely to pull off better grades than when you have 3 or 4 other classes to worry about.

Is the internship something that relates to your major or something you want to do after graduation? Internships will do more for your resume than a part-time job will usually, so you have to consider the long term benefits of gaining that experience, as well as the costs of driving there and how desperately you really need money for the fall.

Make sure you can still take more courses at your CC - some schools have a limit on how many credits you can transfer in and others won’t keep accepting credits from CCs once you hit that limit (and would instead accept them from another 4-year institution). You don’t want to waste time and money on courses that won’t transfer.

If the internship is highly relevant to what you want to do after graduation, I would find a way to make that work. Maybe take an extra class in the fall, or take accelerated courses that only last for 6-8 weeks instead of the whole summer. Take online courses to save money on gas, etc. I’ve worked full time while taking 2-3 courses and am still looking for another part-time job - of course, I also won’t have a lot of free time left to enjoy myself, but you need to try to set your priorities straight and decide what is most important to you.

Depends on how much time you have and how much you want to do. Try to take at least 2-3 classes at the CC and take classes that you know you will do well in. Internships have a better effect on your resume and future than a part-time job so I would eliminate part-time job. DO well in your classes so you can get the credits and take the internship :)
