My D2 just got her Sept ACT scores and improved in every section except Science (which she said was brutal this time). She got a 25 in Science this time and a 29 in June. Tulane does not supercscore ACT's but they said that they "will look at all scores submitted".

Shouls she submit her June ACT's also for the SC score. Or will that hurt her because will Tulane will see all the other sections from June? These are her scores:

June: Comp 29 E 32 M 30 R 26 SC 29
Sept Comp 31 E 35 M 31 R 33 SC 25

By the way she intends to major in business.

I think you should submit all of them. There is too much hype out there about “scores hurting you” and for all but perhaps the top 10 universities (and that, too, may be mythical), I think it can only help your D’s application to see the higher SC score. Adcoms know how these tests vary from one sitting to the next, but the fact that she improved in almost every subject area and composite (and you can only see that by sending both scores) is very impressive too. IMO, there is also something to be said for the student that persevered and tried to improve by taking it more than once.

Oh, one more thing… (I always hit submit too quickly) we heard over and over at presentations that some schools actually break down the composite to see the subject scores in consideration of merit aid, especially in programs where they are actively recruiting. So depending on your D’s interest/major, there may be more merit involved. Just something to consider.

I agree, send both, if money is not a problem. If there’s one section of the ACT people care least about, it’s science. And her jump in reading is extremely impressive! Sending september scores will show the adcoms that she’s a smart student, but sending both shows not only that but also how she improved, which in my opinion, is even better.

That’s a good question… does it cost more to send both ACT scores? I know with college board, you pay one fee and they send all your scores. Unless of course, you deliberately choose “score choice”.

Yes, for the ACT’s it is $10 for each test date that you send. Honestly, if sending the June scores will help her chances, the extra $10 is the least of my worries compared to the cost of tuition at Tulane, LOL.

We had a similar situation and sent both sets of scores, even though they say they don’t super-score. I thought it was worth the extra $10 (or was it $11).

It sure can’t hurt, although I think the 31 will really be all that catches their attention. And that’s a good thing! But to a large degree these tests are supposed to reflect potential to succeed at university level work, and so being able to score high, even if somewhat unevenly, shows that potential.
