Hello everyone,
I’m currently a junior, and I’ve taken AP Physics 1, Honors Bio, and Honors Chem so far in high school. I was wondering for next year whether I should take AP Physics 2, AP Chemistry, or AP Biology. I have interest in all 3 subjects, so my main concern is their workloads. Please let me now on average how much work you guys had or currently have in those classes. Also for context I will be taking AP Calc BC, AP Stats, AP Lit, AP Gov, and AP Micro Econ as well next year, so please keep that in mind when considering which of the science courses I should take.
Thank you so much!
What possible majors in college are you interested in, and will you be pre-med in college?
AP chem would be the hardest but it’s also useful for a lot of majors. What are you hoping to study in college?
(Also, have you reached level 3 or 4 in a foreign language?)
I’m in Spanish 3 right now, and I am interested in business majors like finance or economics.
I’m hoping to study business in college.
Ok, then perhaps AP physics 2, but APES would be the most logical since it seems with current issues that all businesses have to know about.
For business APES is the most useful AP science
*since it deals with…
- Look at your major…will you need to take science? If so, which ones?
- If you take an AP science and do well on the AP test and get credit, will that fulfill your science requirements?
- Would you rather put more effort into your other courses? e.g., if you take AP ES could you put more effort into the others?
Keep in mind that the following specifications are for my school and may differ from yours.
AP Physics 1 (Currently Taking) - No workload. Optional Homework (although I never do them). Spend 3-4 hours studying the day before exam and it’s an easy A.
AP Chem (5)- Heavy workload. Difficult weekly problem sets that often require you to watch YT vids to understand concepts.
AP Bio (currently taking) - Moderate workload. Feels like a non-ap workload. Tests are not difficult if you cram the night before.
You should ask current students at your school about the workload since it is different for each teacher. I’m currently taking AP Chem and have almost weekly labs which take up a lot of time.
