I’m a rising junior and I’m torn between 2 classes to take for the coming year, should I take either AP Stats or AP Psychology? I’m aiming for 3 APs for this year as I’m taking AP USH and AP Capstone. I like both classes so I guess I will make my decision based on which one is easier. Thanks
My daughter took both… if I remember I think both classes weren’t too hard but the AP Stats test was a little harder than AP Psych. What would you take for math if you don’t take AP Stats, though? You want to make sure you have math every year.
I will be taking Algebra 2, I’m not advanced in the math department. And I would be taking AP Stats as an elective with Algebra 2 as my “core math course”
In terms of easiness, both are relatively speaking pretty easy, though if you’re not Math-oriented, Stats might be tougher. In terms of usefulness, the Psychology class may be a bit more useful if you get a high score, since many schools will let you move on to the next Psych class. Stats, you might get credit for at schools but it’s unlikely you would get to move on to any other classes of significance since algebra-based Stats is rarely a pre-req for any other class.
At my school, AP Psych is known to be much easier than AP Stats. Personally, I took AP Stats last year and found it to be a medium-level class, but my friends who took AP Psych said it was one of their easiest classes. You may want to talk with students at your particular school, as the difficulty of the class can vary immensely based on the teacher.
Also, if you have an idea of your future major, you may want to look at the situation through that lens. If you have a humanities or medical focus you may want to take Psych, but if you have a physical science/computer science/math focus, you may want to take Stats.
Depends on what you want. If you’re not sure I’d say take ap statistics. It’s a useful skill for any kind of research and for being able to think critically about data (which is useless for a lot of fields actually)
Both are fairly easy at my school, but I’d say ap psych is probably the easier option (sometimes with a lot more busy work though… depends on your school, ask upperclassmen)
I took both, so I can just say that AP Stats was more useful. I passed both and got college credit, but AP Stats was the only math I needed for my major in college, so I don’t have to take anymore math in college. I’m not sure if you wanted to know credit-wise. I’m also not sure if your possible colleges give credit for APs. I just think AP Psych is viewed as very easy in college admissions.
