Which AP to take?

Alrighty, this is my 3rd thread here, but I'm just a really indecisive person. I'm going to be a sophomore next year.

And I have no idea which AP class to take: AP Art History or AP Computer Science

At first I was going to go with AP Art History because 1) I find it fascinating 2) I'm not learning art history from scratch.

But then I went to the AP Computer Science teacher to ask him to sign my requestor sheet just in case, and I think he's the absolute coolest dude ever. My parents suggested that I take that class because it's going to help me for my future. And also because my dad can help me on HW too :P

I'm looking for courseload for these classes since I'm going to take community college Spanish. So...answer away!

Obvious question arises here… Any idea what direction you are looking to move in in the future? Quantitative major? Humanities major?

If Quantitative, take CS. If Humanities, take Art History.

If you don’t know yet, take Art History because you are more interested in it. It should probably give you a better idea of what direction you want to move in than CS, because not all of your teachers and professors will be cool. You got to like the subject.

Also, just to add. If you haven’t completed 3 years of HS level math (By which I mean 2 years of Algebra and a year of Geometry) I would recommend waiting until you have before you do AP CS.

biased here but computer science is just so much better than art history :P

CS is really fun and an easier AP class

I think art History is the best class ever, personally. It changes the way you see the world. It’s relevant to everything.

Basically, take it.

^I’m switching from Art History to Comp Gov, because the teacher that teaches Comp Gov is cool. I’ll probably take Art History senior year though. It’s hard I’ve heard. :(.

LOL! This is like a 50-50 split.
Well, I am going in to pre-calc next year, so math shouldn’t be a big deal.

I’m not sure if I’m ready to stress over memorizing dates and stuff. That’s no fun. Are most AP Art History classes at your school like that? Just throwing it out there…

AP Art History is one of the harder classes, as well as one of the hardest AP Exams, plus you may not get credit for it, because the more histories you take the less likely you’ll get credit for them.

Take CS. Having a fun teacher makes a big difference in any subject.

“I’m not sure if I’m ready to stress over memorizing dates and stuff. That’s no fun. Are most AP Art History classes at your school like that? Just throwing it out there…”

My school didn’t have either AP Art History, or CS, but there was a 2-hour class which was about European History and Art History and the such where they read classical Greek/Latin Literature (translated of’course) and studied Art and such. Anyway, that was generally considered the hardest (most time consuming) class at my school.

There is no memorizing massive amounts of dates in Art History. I suppose you have to remember the 3rd of May, 1808 because there is a Goya painting with that name, and you have to remember the date Kritios boy was sculpted (480 BCE), because it’s important. But nothing else. You just get to go to class and take a few short notes on a couple of pretty pictures everyday!

Qwertykey’s class sounds beast. Except the Latin literature should have been in Latin.

^Ehhh… I didn’t take it. It was just another class my school offered. It’s a really good class for people who are interested in that stuff though.

What is a general AP Comp Sci class like? I read some syllabi about it, but I don’t understand how this applies to my career goals like my parents said.

Ideally, I want to be an actuary or something in the finance/business sector.

AP CS is learning Programming and Object Oriented Programming through the Java Programming Language.

Tbh, I would take CS as you could get a better combination of finance and cs.

Mind you my 10th Grade Advanced Computer Math Class is AP CS, but it’s a bit different
