Just outta curiosity, what are the rankings of the wealthiest colleges in the US?

I don't have the rankings, but the Ivy League colleges, along with Emory University, Vanderbilt University, University of Southern California, and George Washington University have some of the wealthiest student populations.

hrm thanks=)

I suppose the need-blind colleges would be the richest with the largest endowments?

The richest is Harvard, followed by Yale? Or is it Princeton? What about MIT/Stanford/Duke etc.? Anyone knows? Thanks!=)

The order is: Harvard, Yale, Princeton. MIT, Stanford, and Duke are very close; they can considered as a 3-way tie for 4th place. :)

cool thanks=)

Harvard has twice the money of Yale. Scary, isn't it?

i wouldnt necessarily say that the students are rich and harvard/yale.. those schools' alums are the rich ones.

dredhead5000: This is empirical evidence that the school ITSELF is rich.

ehh.. i guess i just interpreted the original post as which school has the richest kids there.

emory has 5 billion dollars in assets (mainyl due to the coca cola stocks it invested in)

wusl is pretty rich

If you are asking which are the colleges with the most money sitting in endowments, you can find such lists on-line, an example (giving 2003 figures): http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0112636.html

Oh wow thanks drusba! Hrm I wonder why Stanford's not need-blind to internationals when they're richer than MIT!

MIT: only 3% of its finance are from the applicant's tution fee etc. a friend in MIT told me this but I mite be wrong. They won't go bankrupt for years even if they gave all students full rides! God; how can people donate such money!?!! Is it pure altruisticity (I remember altruistic from my SAT list but is altruisticity a word :D?) or is there a reason behind such great sum of donation...

I know this guy donated u-mich few months ago the largest sum of donation ever made to college. 1 billion I think; its scary.... I wish I can just get 0.1% of that :D. This boosted their rank in business from second (or third) to first place beating wharton.

I wonder what school has alumni who give the most. I know obvious answers would be a lot of the ivies, but I wonder how much of their endowment is from companies. Some of the really smaller LACs have crazy amounts of money per student considering their departmental offerings aren't nearly as extensive as bigger schools.

drusba, thanks for that link. i knew these schools had money, but jesus christ...they're entire countries!

Harvard. Their endowment fund is somewhere around 13 billion. It's large enough that they can influence any decision the government makes.
