Hi I am a current eighth grader applying for bs. I want to apply to five boarding schools but that seems like alot. But I was wondering which school would fit my intrests and talents and i would enjoy to go to it. The boarding schools im applying to are Andover, Exeter, Deerfield, Choate and Hotchkiss.

I play Cross country and track and field. I also play soccer and I love drama. I just recieved a call back for the school play and am really excited. My favorite subject is History and I also love to read. I also need a school with alot of community service because thats basically what i do on a daily bases. Thank you!

You write as if you will be the one choosing among these 5 schools on March-10. I am going to cut-n-paste a reply I gave on another thread:

"PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE consider applying to a few more less-selective schools, in addition to just the 4 you have listed. You can see from Ballerina’s post that she is re-applying this year after *“the result of last year (2 rejections, 3 waitlists, and 1 acceptance without enough financial aid)”.
*

Unless your last name is Obama, Kennedy, Bush, Rockefeller, or you have Olympic-level swimming times, do not underestimate the difficulty of getting admitted into these ultra-selective schools, even with straight A’s and a 99% SSAT score.

I would like for you, ballerina22, and all the other 2013 applicants to have a happy outcome on March-10 next year."

Sadly, GMT, you may be barking up the wrong tree, here, if the OP’s handle is any indication.

@BHADES, I recommend thoroughly searching these forums for discussions about prestige and fit. Five schools is not a lot, and in fact may be too few, considering that the schools on your list have some of the lowest acceptance rates in the country.

Your self-description is fairly generic, and will not be helpful to the folks on these boards from whom you are asking advice. All the applicants to these and many other schools fit the very brief description you have set forth—and many do so more articulately, without the spelling and grammatical errors in your post. Perhaps you were simply writing quickly and carelessly. In that case, I recommend doing a bit more thinking, a bit more introspection, and coming up with a SPECIFIC question or two based on what makes you a special candidate for boarding school in general, and what, exactly, you are looking for in a boarding school (besides a fancy name).

Lots of people on these boards would like to help. But we need more to go on than your OP.

Choate sounds like the place for you. They have a very strong cross country program and this year killed the competition at both the Founders League Championship and NE Championship. Furthermore, Choate is probably the best school for drama. They do a good bit of community service, but not as much as Andover. And of the history classes I’ve taken at CRH, I can’t imagine better. All five of those schools are great though, so check them out for yourself! School visits are crucial in making this decision.

My advice is that you broaden your choice a bit further.
No matter how good you are as a candidate, keep in mind that there always is a chance that you will be rejected by all. (to be conservative)
So it would always be better to pick some ‘safety’ schools.
