which calc will benefit me more?

Hello CC community!

I present to you a..... very thought provoking question!(not really)

Which is better in my case? A TI-84plus OR A TI-89plus

I already own the TI-84plus and know about 90% of the functions (even a variety of games)

But will an investment in a TI-89plus help me more? or should I stick with the 84plus?

for next year Calc AB

A good calc teacher wouldn’t let you use a calculator… It doesn’t matter

Not true. Textbooks are organized around the use of calculators, as well as exams. But some calculators may not be allowable for the AP or SAT.

This list is from 2007.

<a href=“Supporting Students from Day One to Exam Day – AP Central | College Board”>Supporting Students from Day One to Exam Day – AP Central | College Board;

Textbooks are often organized around the use of Ti-84’s, and to actually learn calculus you can’t depend on a Ti-89 (As CSM said, your teacher will probably not allow any calculators).

Ti-89 takes a while to learn, and it may be confusing… You won’t need it if you’re not going to be a STEM major. If you choose to get a Ti-89, you’ll have to have self-restraint so you don’t use it needlessly *before *learning how to do calculus concepts by hand, and *remember *how to do them without the calculator for the exam as well.

Ooo thanks im gonna stick with ti84 and my brain

Good call. 84s are quicker at graphing functions than 89s, and you’ll want those extra seconds on the AP exam.
