Which campus is more convenient for Weinberg school student?

I saw posts saying north campus is most likely for engineering. Does this mean north campus is closer to their classes? So south campus is better for Weinberg students? If so, which hall do you guys recommend in South?

It is possible to switch to campus dorms before school starts? I accidentally deposited for North campus.

Thanks a lot!

Yes, engineers tend to have more classes in the big Tech building, while CAS/Medill students tend to have more classes in U-Hall, Kresge, Fisk, and Harris. But these are just generalizations, not hard & fast rules. For instance, WAS Chem and Physics majors will probably have those classes up in Tech, and engineers take a lot of non-McCormick classes in their first two years, so they’re still going south a lot. It’s quite possible to have a class in Tech, followed by a class way south (like I did in Parkes Hall one quarter) and still get there in the 10 minutes allotted between classes–you just have to hustle.

As to the process for switching dorms, I think you just need to contact NU about that.

North-South Campus is a misnomer - it is actually 1 campus in Evanston (not counting Chicago Law & Med Schools).

Google Maps is your friend - and indicates you can walk from Tech “up North” to Medill -“down South” in 12-14 minutes.

“It is possible to switch to campus dorms before school starts? I accidentally deposited for North campus” What do you mean by this? Undergrads take classes on the Evanston campus.

@CaliCash: I should not say “Accidentally”. Just deposited for north campus dorm without consulting with anyone. People told me the 10 minutes walking in Chicago in the winter is really a big deal. So i am worried here. #-o

This is something that, once you are a senior, you will look back and laugh about having worried.

Walking 10 minutes in the winter isn’t really a big deal. Also, shuttles in the winter run like every 5-8 minutes or so. You’ll be fine. OP I am confused. NU did not do housing selection for new students yet. Are you a transfer student?

Which dorm did you choose?

Have you been on the campus? It’s pretty small. You can walk from the south dorms to the north dorms in ten minutes. I graduated back in the 80s. Always lived in dorms (or our sorority house) on the south side of campus. Had classes “up north” as well as closer to the south dorms. Never thought it was a long walk to class.

OP, if you still want to change and have contacted NU residential services (here http://www.northwestern.edu/living/ is you’ll be able to find their contact info if you haven’t contacted them yet), and they said that you can indeed change, then check out this handy Housing Guide (http://apps.northbynorthwestern.com/housing/2015/). Its for last year, and there have been a few changes since then, so you might also want to play around on the NU residential services website to try to find out what options you’d have for next year.
