I'm looking for a school with a really modern campus, such as UCF (University of Central Florida) but of higher of caliber, like that of an ivy. I don't like the whole old antique look and especially old dorms like those at Brown.

Think about it, top colleges tend to have long histories. It doesn't mean they don't have modernized dorms. Many do: Princeton, Dartmouth, Yale, Penn all have some new and totally renovated dorms.

I know I sound like a broken record on CC, but I'll say it again: Grinnell College in Iowa is amazing. On top of excellent academics and a warm and inclusive student culture, their huge endowment has resulted in wonderful facilities, especially for the sciences. There is a beautiful brand new student center, excellent dining hall, amazing arts center(s), wonderful athletic facilities. If you like modern architecture, they have some of the best.

Florida Gulf Coast University in Estero (Fort Myers/Naples) is a brand new campus. The school is just ten years old and it was built in pristine reclaimed wetlands (Florida-speak for "swamp").

That the state of Florida has spared no expense on campus buildings is evident to a even a casual visitor. FGCU facilities at which I have volunteered are state of the art.

I haven't seen the dorms, but I understand they compare favorably to any dorms anywhere.

FGCU isn't presently "of higher of caliber" than UCF, necessarily, but between the two schools, I think FGCU is the more likely to achieve national esteem.

Unfortunately, FGCU's highly-regarded president Bill Merwin resigned in a sex scandal, but he was succeeded by a seemingly capable younger president. It remains to be seen, however, whether the new president really has Merwin's exalted vision of FGCU, or, even if he does, whether he can pull it off.

FGCU's sports program has had some internal management problems, but there is such a surplus of athletic talent in the area that a good football team (one of Merwin's objectives) could be built based just on what UF, FSU, and Miami leave behind in the area.

FGCU could become one of those schools like Clemson whose reputation skyrocketed. Once, a Clemson degree wasn't worth very much; nowadays it is.
