Which college has the best campus?

semiserious: I've been to UVA campus where I wondered - how somebody got the bull/cow up on top of that building which Jefferson designed? There are some amazing kids in charlottesville, huh? I mean, even comparing to Harry Potter... ^_~

I know its my school but I think our campus is nice, it was ranked as one of the best, anyways, here are 2 photo albums for you to enjoy!

http://www.opt.indiana.edu/tours/spring/index.htm

All quite different, but all incredibly beautiful campuses:

Haverford
Mount Holyoke
Bennington
UVA
Stanford
Gettysburg

Penn State University Park

I've never considered Haverford to be beautiful, but maybe thats because I drive passed it daily. It's in a nice area of our small city, but i could never go to college here.

Wow semiserious and Untilted, thanks for the pictures. I've never had the chance for a college visit so these were really nice. =) Could you guys post them as a 'Photo Page' in the UVa forum to help those who can't visit as well?

Well I don't know about best.. I know about worst.. NYU. It doesn't even have one. =P But that would be a great plus in the eyes of different people.

lol the great downfall of NYU...located in New York and yet it has no campus and students go insane due to isolation although they have 8 million ppl around them.

Luckily Columbia got it right.

Those high quality lighting of the lawn pictures of uva are orgasmic. ;)

"semiserious: I've been to UVA campus where I wondered - how somebody got the bull/cow up on top of that building which Jefferson designed? There are some amazing kids in charlottesville, huh? I mean, even comparing to Harry Potter... ^_~"

By "the building Thomas Jefferson designed", do you mean Rotunda? I've never seen a cow up there.

I am pretty familiar with Berkeley and Stanford.

As for Berkeley, I second semiserious. I used to live in SF and to me, Berkeley's campus is definitely not as pretty as the pictures show. It's pretty average and homely. They did hire some good photographers though. LOL!

Stanford campus was very impressive when I first visited. I often saw marrying couples take their wedding pictures in front of the church, the Quad, and the Oval! Everything has been built with a plan and well-maintained. You can tell they spend a lot of money just to maintain it. But after a while, it feels kinda artificial and sterile.

UVA does seem to be very nice. I like Williams College a lot.

I like Berkeley's campus, and like Stanford's as well. Homely? What do you mean, Sam Lee? Average . . . compared to what? Other college campuses? I think the campus does look as good as many of the pictures show. Maybe not everyday, but often.

Anyway, if you think Berkeley's campus is large, stanford's will blow you away (or tire out your feet).

As someone who spent almost every day wandering around the campus for a few months, I have to say that Berkeley's campus is decent, but by no means among the best in the country. They have some particularly ugly buildings (that hideous music library comes to mind) and some very lovely ones (I especially like the main library building) but most of the buildings on campus are pretty average. Don't get me wrong, I love Berkeley and I would have been thrilled to go there, but the campus is not one of its best features.

On the other hand, I hate Stanford's campus because I don't like the style of the architecture at all.

^^^Really this points out the flaw of asking such a question. People have very different tastes. shimmya doesn't seem to like the architecture style of Stanford whereas I don't like the old gothic stye. So we can help you better which style do YOU like CuddlySheep?

It depends. I have to say I have a soft spot for gothic architecture, but I also like Stanford a lot. Oh, and I really like greenery, etc...
I LOVE the pictures you guys have found for me. They're great!!!

I really enjoy Tufts campus (I'm biased of course lol), not the best, but certainly quite beautiful.

I can see some Thomas Jefferson's influence on Duke's East Campus.

Pranks for the Memories

By Tony Kornheiser

Sunday, November 23, 1997; Page F01
The Washington Post

There are college pranks, and there are college pranks. But
you can stop calling now. I think we've got a winner.

This guy put a cow on the dome of the historic Rotunda at the
University of Virginia!

It happened 32 years ago, and for all that time the identity of
the perpetrator remained a secret. For 32 years the poor
county sheriff had this unsolved "Bovine B&E" on the books. It
turns out the man respon

sible is now president of Nasdaq. His
confession was front-page news last week.

(Apparently, one of his friends cowed him into it. Now I'm
milking the story. I'd butter stop with the puns before I look
like an udder fool.)

The perp's name is Alfred R. Berkeley III.

Make that "Bossy" Berkeley.

He put the cow 50 feet above the ground, on the dome
Thomas Jefferson designed. The president of a
multi-billion-dollar stock market. Oh, man, I wanna party with
you, Alf.

Got any hot stock tips? Anything about to moooooove up?

(And get this: The reason Alf put the cow on the roof was to
outdo his dad, who once hung stuffed animals on the tree
outside the U-Va. president's office. I shudder to think what
Alf would have done if his dad had hung U.N. inspectors from
trees, like Saddam Hussein.)

All right, class, let's compare and contrast: The president of
Nasdaq puts a cow on a roof. The president of the country
says that, in college, "Yeah, I took a toke on a joint -- but I
didn't inhale."

What does that tell you about hands-on, take-charge
leadership?

The Nasdaq guy ought to be president of the United States.
Here's his slogan: "Make Cud, Not War."

The only disappointing thing in an otherwise totally uplifting
story is that Mr. Berkeley has expressed regret at dragging the
cow up about 100 steps and coaxing it onto the dome. "I have
a lot more of an adult view at age 53 than I did at 20," he said.

Nobody's buying that, Alf. You put a cow on a roof. You're a
legend. You can run that maturity jive in public, but here's what
you're saying in private: "High five, baby!"

Hmmm, I had no idea the president of NASDAQ went to UVa! More evidence that we're the best school on Earth. :) That sounds like a hilarious prank.

I like UVA's campus because of the memories I had there and the frat parties + history. You really have to check it out to know what I mean. I've kinda lived around there for a while though so maybe I am a bit nostalgic.

I also like Carnegie Mellon's campus because it is situated on Squirrel Hill which lets you feel isolated and have that traditional college campus with the green fields and college kids reading/playing all around but also just 5 minutes down the street you have Downtown Pittsburgh + U.Pitt campus. Also just 10 minutes another way you have Shadyside and their great shopping street of Walnut. It really makes you feel like you have the best of both worlds.
