So im faced with a decision as the application start rolling in (hopefully)... should i go to a local private school (in my case, Loyola University Chicago) or a more prominent and known private school such as a University of Southern California or New York University...

Its all personal preference. Which school do you prefer the most? What do you want in a school?

you need to see which one has a location, student body, and academics that appeal to you. If you got into all 3 which one would you go to? and pick that one to apply to.

It is fine to think about this a little bit, but you should hold off on any decisions until you have received all of your acceptances and all of your financial aid offers. The economy is in the tank (and isn't going to get any better while you are in college), so you need to be emotionally prepared for the possibility that your final choice will be determined by money. Do yourself a favor, and make sure that you and your parents are on the same page about this.

Good luck!
