Hello, this weekend I have gotten some greats news, I have been accepted to my top three schools. They are Catholic University of America, Seton Hall University and Albright College. Well my major question is for any who are/have going/gone to these schools to tell me some benefits and some down sides. Also which you think I should attend.

A little about me and them, I have a 4.0 weighted GPA,about 1700 on SAT, and wish to study either Poly Sci w/ minor in religious studies or History(general)

The Three:

Albright: Has offered me 80 thousand for the four years and possibly a full ride if I apply for the program.

Seton Hall: 70 thousand with no other considerations has of now.

Catholic: Has yet to send the scholarship package will be here within the month. (was at one time my first pick)

I have never heard of Albright, but of course have heard of the other two schools. I would be concerned about name recognition of Albright.

Have you visited any of the schools?

what’s important to you in a school? I think Seton Hall has a more known sports program…is that important to you? I don’t know what sports the other two schools are known for.

I don’t think any of those schools, at least to me, have a name recognition to the point where getting into significant debt for one over the other matters. If you have a preference for one over the other, and can “afford” to be picky, than pick the one you like the most.
Take into consideration what you expect or plan to do with your major. If its for the sake of becoming educated, and are undecided about career plans, look into the school that has the better career resources/network. If you’re using it as a means for law school, what will matter for admissions is gpa and lsat, and frankly the cheapest choice is the better choice(financially in the long run)

CUA definitely has more name recognition than the other two choices, and a great location for networking. I also know a kid at Seton Hall currently that really isn’t a fan of the school or the Jersey ghetto that surrounds it.

If their FA package isn’t horrible, I’d go to CUA.

Debt needs to be a consideration, especially if law school is in your future. What in-state publics are you also applying to? That may be your most economical choice. Also, how much can your parents contribute?

Thank you for the advice. And yes Albright is my saftey school and is not that well known (it has something like 1 thousand kids). And sports are not that important to me, in fact at all. Finally I have only applied to those three plus TCNJ and William and Mary, the latter i am planning on not getting accepted to. These three colleges are just my top three and was wondering about what student thoughts of them. And thank you for all you help.

Albright has a very nice regional recognition.

I think your decision needs to wait until you know all the finances.

The decision for Yes/No to Albright will come down to your personal preference for school size & location – Reading PA can’t compare to DC area for internships, however, in my limited personal experience, Albright does well in getting kids into regional law schools (esp. Dickinson now part of Penn State and Temple). The plus to Albright is that a solid student can stand out and develop good relations with profs which then become good recs for law school.

You have plenty of time to make the final decision – for now sit back & enjoy your acceptances :)

EDITED to add – Albright provides a great deal of flexibility. They just don’t talk the talk, they walk the walk when they say you can develop any combo of majors.

I should also add I’m a parent and life long PA resident.

You should post on the individual school forums on this site for input as well.

I’m going to Albright now
There is a very smart group of people in Albright, but the range is also huge. Meaning there are also some people who really aren’t great students.
The studying atmosphere here is great, the campus is beautiful, but small and intimate. Everyone basically recognizes everyone.
The best thing about albright has to be the professors and the very helpful administration staff. The SGA here is great and influential as well.
The professors all have impressive educational and teaching backgrounds, some had taught in top (as in ivy league) universities in USA and even UK.

I would recommend Albright if you are a outgoing and smart student. Due to the small size of the school, if you are smart, you would definitely be able to be recognized and use your potential to the full.
